3 card monte!

Postby supra » Jul 24th, '05, 04:39

i want to get a good 3 card monte, not sure which one to get, i was looking at a few:

UltiMonte by Harold Cataquet
Color Monte
Stand Up Monte by Garrett Thomas
The Ultimate 3 Card Monte by Michael Skinner

these are the few ones that i looked up and like Michael Skinner's and also the stand up monte, not sure which one to get or if there is a better anyone here could recommend.

IMHO, you can't do better than Color Monte - very easy to do, gaff-free, and very impressive.

I bought Ultimonti, was initially unimpressed, practiced like mad, got it right until I thought that it would become one of my favourites, and the cards stopped working as they should.

I applied more Rou**ing fluid but I still can't get them going again. I'm relly cheesed off as after perfecting it thought it was such a great routine, but I'm not prepared to fork out for another set, just for them to wear out while practicing.

Why not learn how to do a normal, non-gaffed 3 card monte?

Mike.

I agree, I was going to buy a gaffed version, but I decided to learn the ordinary ungaffed one.
It's not too difficult to learn, and I'm happy I learned it now.

If you want to do 3 card monte then buy Daryls DVD on the subject this has everything you need to know. I own both Mike Skinners and Darlys 3 card monte packet trick and both are excellent, but if you learn to do the real thing a repeat performance of the effect after a packet trick version can become something really magical and brain frying.

well i do know how to do the original 3 card monte, but i wanted to try one of these. I know that the color monte is non-gaffed and all, and the i also like the ultimate 3 card monte by michael skinner.

im thinking to get both of them, imo most ppl don't suspect that the cards are gaffed they only think that they can't follow ur quick moves

so im not really worried if the card are examinable or not, but like kati recommeneded the color monte since its gaff free and that way u are not worried if someone asks to see the cards.

I have to agree with sam:monkey fist.. Daryl's DVD contains everything you need to know about doing and building a 3 card monte routine.

Although I don't do this one, I do have Darlys DVD and it's excellent, not seen any of the others you mention though. Daryl's approach is similar to his Ambitious Crad where he explains various units and moves which can be plugged together in any order to create the routine that suits you.

Personally I like Daryls stuff as well so maybe I'm bias.

Doc Eason has, on one of his tapes, a very good ungaffed version of 3 card monte and it has a great patter story line. I prefer it above the others I've seen.

If I was to buy 2 gaffed deck of cards, or 2 gaffed tricks, that would be:

The Ultimate 3 Card Monte by Michael Skinner
and
ID

I love the Skinner version. After looking at Bill Malone dvds and his performance of this, I realized what a killer routine this is. The way he performs it, the patter, the moves and the elegancy, it's just a must have. I haven't ordered it myself yet, but, yes I will. I don't do much gaffed stuff, but this one, is really a must have... it's SO visual, yet so gaffed ;)
