i swear i love this cut for so many reasons lol

it looks great
it impresses just about anyone :D
its easy to do :)

one thing bad about your video goldfish was when you did the close up you should have tidyed the desk, like moved the mouse would make the video look much better.

But the cut you did was great

 Lol good grief, sorry but I wasn't looking to win a BAFTA, just demonstrate the move.

You say you love this cut because it's easy to do? I say I love this move because it isn't easy to do  . Firstly it took me several days straight to teach my hand to actually stretch far enough to perform the cut. Secondly, whenevr I'm warming up I always use this move because I consider it reasonably difficult to perfom therefore if I can do it well I'm ready to perform "lesser" moves to a greater ability. That probably doesn't make much sense but that's why I love the Hotshot Cut.

Yea, I like doing this in front of people because it looks so cool. I actually just learned this from one of my counselors at Badger Boys State about a month ago (Hey Jake!). I like holding half the deck in each hand and then doing this so I shoot two cards at the same time. It takes a little practice, but it looks cool.

Does anybody know a decent effect that uses this?
I just have them select a card, shuffle it to the bottom, and reveal.
Can anyone else expand on this?

Yep but to be honest it doesn't take a huge ammount of creative thought to come up with a good presentation for this. If your absolutely stuck PM me and I'll help you out. I hope that doesn't sound harsh but if we all told each other exactly how we presented our effects we'd all be doing the same things and that would be horribly boring.

It's no problem,
I haven't really thought about it much, and I'm sure I will come up with something interesting in time. I was just curious to find out what kind of things other people were doing... :)

I've watched this video several times - very good handling! - and I'm still struggling with the move. The cut's fine - I've been doing the cut for years - but I can't figure out exactly how to spin it out from the deck.

Can anyone give me any pointers...? Would be much appreciated

There's also a section on the new Xtreme Beginnerz DVD with Daryl teaching the Hot Shot Cut.

I've not got this yet so cant say how good it is, but i would think learning it from the creator isnt too bad :P

I think I hold the break right before you shoot the card wrong, it always crushes the card..by that I mean the break closes after I swing it around. I will keep practicing.

My suggestion would be to watch the DVD again and try and figure out where you're going wrong.

If you only got the DVD two days ago there's no way you'll have it down perfect already. It took me about two days solidly doing this cut plus another three doing it on and off to get the motions right and I would say that it still isn't absolutely perfect (after two years!).

Keep at it, everything you need to learn this move should be on that DVD. If it isn't and you are still desperate to learn it, I suggest you get the original source which is Daryl's Encyclopedia of Card Sleights Volume 8. Infact, I think the Hot Shot Cut which is taught on Born To Perfom isn't correct anyway.

All the best,
