Marked deck... Stupid Question?

Postby MrCat » Oct 30th, '18, 13:13

Folks, I just got a new marked deck, my first ever. DMC Elites as reviewed and commented on in other places here....

Now I'm looking for ideas on what to do with them. I feel kind of stupid as ...well, with a marked deck the possibilities are surely endless but boy I can't think of a single one off hand haha

The only think I can really think of right now is some kind of mentalist routine whcich could work well as I'm pretty good at the banter, that was always the thing I relied on most when performing anything. Weave everyone into a false sense of what's going on then Bang hit them up with the reveal haha. Always brilliant but I'm looking for some suggestions on anything you may have used them for to great effect and wonder?

I'm kind of feeling like there's so much you can do with them I'm a bit overwhelmed and can't think of anything haha, so I'd really love some of your routines and ideas.

I'm going to have to buy some more 'regular' decks with similar backs now for the good old deck switch as all mine are bycicles for the same reason but these are different

Cheers

I have just responded re this deck elsewhere. I don't think you can get other decks with this pattern on the back which is my problem with the deck as well. However, there is plent of material out therefor you if you do want to uses them. Hidden in plain sight by Kirk Charles and Boris Wild is a good example, also Marked For Life by Wayne Dobson is a good read. From the Wayne Dobson book the You Do As I Do routine is an easy yet baffling one to get started withy.

Ah brilliant thanks, yea I saw your other response, I kind of have the same problem but the advert seemed to imply that it was a type of backing that was fairly famous so I assumed other regular decks would be available but have not looked yet.

I used to pitch marked decks and did very well with them. I had a terrific routine with them but alas it would be no good to you because when selling the decks it is important that your audience KNOW that they are marked but that would not be what YOU want!

Of course there was no way that the cards I sold were easy to read from the back and I could hardly read them myself.I have always specialised in low quality merchandise. So how could I demonstrate them, you may ask? Well, I never actually read the marks in the first place! I used a stacked deck and only pretended to read the backs.Sshhh............its a secret!

I do indeed specialise in low quality merchandise. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if my punters were getting value for money! I do have to protect the secrets of magic after all and I can't have members of the public being able to do the tricks I sell. Ethics you know. Here is a prime example of my low quality merchandise.

If I were going to use a marked pack, I'd combine it with a stack.

I hope this isn't too obvious, a gambling or a scam routine. Combine it with sleight of hand. I have used marked decks in the past but prefer making my own. It is easy to do, you can use a back design of your choice and you don't need to pay a premium price.

I wouldn't know how to make a nice subtle marked deck off hand tho and I do have to say I really do like this particular method, it does stand out really well and easily once you get the ....erm... knack it's incredibly obvious at a glance :)

I'm pretty happy with them, and yes of course some kind of scam routine would be perfect...don't worry Nic, for me you really can't be too obvious just now haha, many thanks! :)

I remember Ellisdon's sold something known as the "Mocker" deck some decades ago. I used to get great fun with it.

I still have one of those. it's terrible. The backs are in different shades of red/pink.
