I used to know a guy called the Great Mandu (or something like that anyway) years and years ago. He ate glass and various other unmentionable objects, laid on a bed of nails and did all the usual arm piercing and other stunts suitable for less squeamish audiences. He had a bit of a rough edge on him and quite inarticulate so he didn't speak in his act but had someone else do the speaking for him. One day I was amused to read in the newspapers that he was booked to perform at a prison to entertain the inmates. The contract was signed but was cancelled by the prison authorities on the grounds that former inmates were not allowed to offer their services.
