2022 Events Calendar Filling Up

Postby Spellbinder » Nov 7th, '21, 11:20

Now that the Pandemic seems to be waning, the number of magic events is returning to normal. My Magicnook Calendar of worldwide events < https://www.magicnook.com/calendar/calendar.htm > is filling up with only a few permanent losses. Most of the old favorites are back in business, so 2022 will be a Happy and Magical New Year after all!

I am pessimistic by nature but I have to say that I am not getting a vibe of it waning as much as I want it to. I think we are going to be stuck with this for a while yet.

I get the impression that things here in the UK aren't getting better but people seem willing to 'risk it' as they've had two, possibly three jabs. Recently the graph of infections was rising alarmingly although hospitalisations were declining. Sàdly mask wearing and hand saitising seem to be forgotten arts, many shops have either withdrawn hand sanitiser or haven't bothered refilling the dispensers. I fear the worst.

However I've been to three live magic shows in the past few weeks (Pete Firman, Derren Brown and John Archer) and admission requirements varied from no need to show proof of vaccination to having to show the Covid pass or other proof of vaccination.

I'm not relaxing my standards so if you see a miserable old geriatric wearing a mask, moaning his head off and sanitising hands like the clappers, it'll probably be yours truly!

They are still pretty strict in Canada. Unlike the British I am afraid Canadians are terribly well behaved.

I'm 100% behind you Mandrake (at least 2 yards and with a mask on).

If people think this Pandemic is over, then they are living in abject denial; and should prepare themselves for a wake-up call this winter.

My Wife is a Nurse; and is as busy now, as she was back in March 2020. This Pandemic may not be in the headlines at the moment......BUT it isn't yet over - not by a long way.

Suffice to say that despite us (and our Son) having had both jabs of the vaccine (Wifey's also had her booster early, as she works for the NHS) we've still all contracted Covid over the past few months. In our Son's case, who is a 30yo extremely fit builder, it literally knocked him out for a week. I had lung surgery 3 years ago this month, so maybe I'm overly cautious. However, I just wish that others were not so overly complacent.

Am I surprised at peoples' attitudes? Not really........there are so many Brits these days who do not appear to be the sharpest pencils in the box - for a variety of reasons, that I won't go into on a magic forum!

Well you do now live in Canada Mark; where exciting news appears somewhat harder to come by!

https://www.buzzfeed.com/ishmaeldaro/ca ... -this-post

It reminds me of a couple of young ladies I was chatting to, whilst on a campsite in Banff a few years back.

"We're from Edmonton".

"Oh right.....that's not on our itinerary. What are we missing then?"

"Errrrrrm.......well we have one of the biggest recycling plants in Canada".

Suffice to say, we were hardly overcome with disappointment.

I read that buzzfeed thing. It is actually very true! Both the UK and the US have their faults but boring doesn't fit either of them!
