Can anyone suggest some good cuts to learn?

Postby trickyricky » Aug 13th, '05, 19:48

Im looking to expand my knowledge of cuts and flourishes but all i know so far is a one handed cut which looks quite impressive, but not nearly as impressive enough! If you could suggest some good cuts and tell me where you found them, that would be great! I would prefer them to be off websites because i cant afford dvds until next friday, but all would be appreciated!

Thanks, Rich

Im thinking about buying the Born to Perform dvd next friday when i get paid! My mate from work has the ninja series on dvd and said he will lend them to me if i teach him how to do a decent elmsley count!! As far as im concerned, the count is hardly anything compared to what is on those dvds!

Get Xtreme Beginnerz from ellusionist if you are really keen on flourishes as I am. If you are more into cuts than other flourishes, get Dan and Dave's System from penguinmagic.

do some complicated Sybil cuts. A lot of fake cuts look really good. Brian Tudor has some not very well taught but still good cuts in his Show off videos

The cuts that you'll perhaps find most usefull to learn are false cuts and there are a few on Born To Perform that I use all of the time. If you're into magic then you don't want your cuts and flourishes to detract from the magic.

There are som many that you can learn, but in reality, so few of them that are of much use.

I'd recommend that you spend yout time perfrecting things like forces, colour changes, counts and other sleights.

I agree that the hot shot is a great way to reveal a card for some tricks.

If you can do the standard charlier cut (one hand cut) i.e 2 packets then get your fingers round the triple charlier.

This is basically the two packet cut but adding a third packet.

P.m me for a better description if you can't work it out thogh i am usually slow to reply to p.ms as i only get to use a computer about 2 times a week.

Ive actually started doing the triple charlier cut! Thanks for the suggestion though! Ive kinda caried on going with it too.... like into a five packet and seven packet cut..... its hard to get my fingers around and at the mo it doesnt work every time but im practicing!!

Thanks for all of your suggestions as well, ive actually ordered Xtreme Beginners! Cant wait till it arrives! Dont stop posting though, im sure some other beginners like myself will find this all quite useful if theyre interested in cuts but not sure which ones are the best!

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

The Charlier and triple Charlier are nice cuts to use, particularly if you can do them simultaneously with both hands. A nice way to keep your fingers nimble.

If you're cutting the charlier into four or five packets in total, then I think that this is called the Tokyo cut.

quadcharlier is even cooler.
Anywho, try to find the butterfly cut, and there's this really nice false cut that I think is in sankeytized, I can't remember... Regardless sankeytized is awesome to get anyways.

Can anyone tell me what the Charlier and triple Charlie (and any other Charlier) cut is...? I've heard it mentioned so many times on the site but not sure I've ever seen it performed.

Just google it, and you'll find it quite quickly...

In fact, I've done it for you:

The Charlier Cut

I know there's no pictures, but give it a go, or google 'Charlier Cut' yourself. Easy peasy!
