D'lite- Rookie Review

Postby Ollivanders_382 » Sep 13th, '05, 07:36

After stumbling across this site a few weeks ago I have quietly been reading reviews from the wings, picking out, based on reviews, which tricks I would like to learn. I was worried however that perhaps the reviews were being made from the point of view of someone who has some skill in Magic. Since I have no such skill to speak of, over the next little while I’ll be putting forth a series of “Rookie Reviews” from the point of view of someone just starting out so that perhaps others in my situation will feel well informed.

The Effect
Balls of light at seemingly plucked from the Ether, your nose, mouth, ear or anywhere else and tossed around, swallowed, ect.

Cost

$24.88 shipped

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

1.
This illusion itself is a snap; it doesn’t require any special skill. Some thought and practice is required, but the more you use them the more creative you become.

Review
This is a very FUN trick to perform. Once you get into it you really enjoy playing around.
This illusion gets a great reaction from everyone who sees it. You can perform it more or less impromptu (you get even better reactions when people don’t expect it) as it can be set up in a matter of seconds under the guise of pulling up your trousers, putting your hands in your pockets or any number or everyday movements. The trick is gathering confidence enough in your elusion to perform it. The best practice is standing in front of a mirror and seeing what looks good. Without giving too much away; I also found that if you put the props in place when you are not using them, for example driving the car, watching TV, walking around the supermarket, you will begin to feel more comfortable with them. Penguins demo videos are also a great place for ideas.

Overall
9/10
Great effect and good reaction, but you do feel a bit funny at first once you have everything in place.
