Make sure that you keep a record of all emails (sent and received) as they will be useful if you need to get into things litigious.

Ebay are pretty good and will act the right way on things like this,

I've decided to close this matter and though that I would post my final piece of correspondance. Everything that I have stated in my emails, to try and gain some clarity has been turned and twisted, and then used as a response with many of the main questions that I asked being evaded. I've been reported to ebay by the seller and have been portrayed as the villan for contacting the bidders to help and gain some evidence.

Stephen

I’m sure that you remember sending the email below which is really what started our dispute.

For the record, I’ve decided to cease communications with you and will now simply wait for the outcome of my claim through Paypal. I don’t feel that this growing string of emails is getting anywhere and it’s simply wasting my time, particularly as you continuously evade and deflect many of the questions that I ask of you in support of your statements. I’m very disappointed in this transaction with you, which happened to be my first on ebay and will probably be my last.

You have stated that you are a magician with some 15 years experience but I have yet to meet any other another magician that shows such contempt towards another magician without good reason. In fact from the hundreds of magicians that I have come into contact with, everyone has a respect for each other and a willingness to help which you simply don’t possess. Your story changes by the email and whatever you claim, I simply do not believe anything that you have written.

You have demonstrated that you have no conscience whatsoever and if you have a single ounce of decency in you, then at least give the £20 to a charity of your choice as I know that you have had the coin back. However, I doubt very much that you will even contemplate this and will simply look for the next opportunity to rip someone off.

So I hope that you enjoyed the money, the 40 pieces of silver. I can easily afford £20 but as I said earlier it’s not about the money. It has all been about the principle.

Wishing you well for the future………

You must be hard up for money, i have to laugh.....its only £20 ..... I’m far from being hard up, I’m glad that I bought you some joy and yes…….. It’s only £20
just go through the procedures and send me the item back. I did
You have to be the sadist person ive came across in a long time. Not that sad in comparison to you though – I have a conscience
You have gave me good entertainment...send the item back and ill put it back on. Being an entertainer, this is good feedback. Thanks. Oh, and once again, I did send it back
Stick to the benefits you sad f***er. I don’t do benefits. There are hundreds of responses to your name calling but I can, and will rise above that. I don’t wish to reduce myself to the same level as you have stooped to.

People like him get on my nerves. Whats the point in not sending you your money back if he is just going to sell it again and get the same amount back?? I know that he shouldn't do that, but thats what he will do.

crazy

I contacted the winner of the latest auction and had a response today. The winner states that he is happy with the coin and that he has received an original Eddie Gibson coin. He claims to live close to Eddie and knows him. He further states that he has a number of EG coins to make a comparrison against.

I've thanked him for his time and the correspondance between us began and ended ammicably.

What a horrible experience! Thanks for giving us a heads up so we know to avoid him. I hope everything works out in your favor, as it seems like you did everything by the book. I looked up your seller and it seems the person who bought something from him right after you also left negitive feedback so maybe it will help to know you're not alone? I've only had one lousy transaction while buying something on ebay so I know what a pain in the rear it can be, but as was stated above there are plenty of good sellers on there when it comes to magic so don't give up!

At the other end of the spectrum, I've just bought a coin from Zack and would like to say a big thank you for the excellent transaction. I'm delighted with the coin!

Thanks again

You're more than welcome, Dat. The guy you've had dealings with is one of my pet peeves with magic and the internet, and has been for some time.

The internet lends itself to being a tool for one of the most wondrous things the world has to offer - a sense of community, wherever you are. However, it also provides the opportunity for anonymity to be abused. I am sure that had the seller you've had contact with were to come face to face with you, he'd probably be a damn sight less brave, and would find it difficult to continue his disgusting level of arrogance in person.

Sometimes I despair at seeing some of the threads that are started on this board, when it is obvious that kids are here to find secrets, or others just to make our lives hell, using the mask that is their web-browser to help them feel secure in their own lives.

I could go on for ages about my hatred of those that abuse the fantastic sense of community that the internet can give, but I won't. Not on this thread, anyway.

For the record, I've bought on ebay and had no problems, so I'm sure it's a rarity, as the majority of people in this world are nice people.

Stupid, but nice.

Yes, most people are nice, but every so often a bad egg appears, and I have had my fare share. I live in a flat and my neighbour was forced 2 move out because she was getting hassle from another neighbour. Then new people moved in, and were a living nightmare. One day the disappeard (yay!), but then the guy down below me has started balsting his music at 5 oclock in the moring, and I have to floors in my flat, and my wee brother and mum wake up with the noise (I sleep through it).

These kind of people are just a**holes, and there is not much decent people can do about them.

At least you got what you were looking for, in the end

Hi all.

I thought that I would let you know (those of you who may be interested) hat I received notification from Paypal this morning that their investigation has been concluded in my favour. However, I have been awarded £6 only and this is on the basis that they can only try to recover this amount from the seller. It does state that they will take further action against him, probably a warning.

I suppose the £6 is better than nothing (if I get it) and I will donate all of this amount to charity as I said earlier, it wasn't about the money.

It pays to keep all records and it turns out that a biggie for me was taking a digital photo of the coin against a genuine Eddie Gibson. Thanks to Vic for the advice.

Glad it has all been resolved (of sorts). Fortunately this sort of problem is extremely rare (in my experience) and even though I'm still waiting for a certain item to appear after many months I'm sure that the majority of those selling are honest and decent.

Caveat Emptor and all that.

Well done,

Vic

I'm really pleased that's sorted, dat. It's a nice feeling when you stand up for a principle and 'the man' agrees with you.

BTW - I've just read my post above... How angry was I that day?!
