i heard somewhere that you can make your own double back cards, it could be really useful with other tricks that i might make up. i think i know how to do it, but im not 100% sure. something about peeling

I don't get it..just glue one card to another face to face and you've got yourself a double backer....

Zero... there's a DVD you can buy that deals with how to make your own gaff cards, the right glue to use etc...

Unfortunately I can't remember the name of it. Hopefully someone else will, and they'll be kind enough to post it's name here.

Daryl deals with making cards in his 'Encyclopedia' series, number 8 I think.

Yes this is the easiest way to make a double backed card but there are flaws with this method.
The main problem is that the card it two cards thick and will stick out a mile in close up performance. plus if you want the spectator to shuffle the cards even the (not politically correct i but) Thickest of layman would feel it straight away.

If you are looking for some common gaffs, you can buy a deck that contains some of everything - blankfacers, blank-backers, DB, DF...

I got a set of bicyles with every conceviable gaff for a fiver and although I love playing with glue and sticky-backed stuff (Blue Peter - the first generation kid, me!) I don't think you can beat getting a set of stuff done for you in this situation.

I agree with Vic, when you can pick up a whole pack of double backers for £4-£5 why bother making your own? I have tried card splitting and found it a real pain and very difficult to get right...

...i know that, i sorta peeled it off. looks horrible though and i dont even have a glue stick at home

everything costs money
plus i dont have a credit card handy. i rather make my own gaff cards unless they come with something

Most home made gaffs, unless you're very practiced and experienced at making them, tend to stick out like the preverbial sore thumb.

Sticking to cards together, back to bach would be like sticking a slice of hovis in the middle of the deck (well nearly ). It will be spotted a mile off by any eagle eyed spec due the thickness

well some of the tricks i do doesnt require me to show the whole card. just a flash while the card is under other real cards

I've been to a gig recently where the homemade gaffed cards were not only obvious in appearance but on card in particular, as it was effectively selected by a member of the audience, the front and back were obviously separating at one corner.

I asked the performed afterwards where he got hois cards and he told me he made them from old discarded pack to save cash. Problem is that I was not the only person to realise that these cards were gaffed and the opening couple of 'table hops' using them then led into a cabaret style 'stage' production with the situation that the distrust had been seeded and the performance (in regards to audience response) was a bit flat.

What was really sad id the fact that the performance was polished and practised and deserved more. A good performance depends on more than execution of the main trick - a never to forget fact;-)

Sad, a tenner might have left the place rocking.

Moral: Saving money isn't always saving money!

Wise words there from Vic - If you're performing for money, or auditioning for a chance to, then you just cannot leave quality issues to chance.

The finest details does count, even down to ensuring that you don't have differences in the card boxes if you;re doing a deck swap.

If someone is paying you, they deserve better!

I recently started card splitting to make gaffs......I use them all the time to practice or work through an effect. I do however use the real ones to perform.........I find this mixed thinking works well for me!
