Do many people still use the Topit?

It is a new concept to me and I have been reading some of the old posts on the subject

Jay scott berry is a topit master! i recently saw him at a lecture and a masterclass that he ran and both times i knew he was using one (he also let eveyone know WHEN he was using one) and i never saw a thing!.. i know of a few working pro's in my area that use them also

When Michael Ammar lectured at the Ipswich Magical Society earlier this year he demonstrated the use of his topit, and, according to his website, he's one of the world's leading experts on the subject... Have a look at his website, where you can buy a book, a DVD or just the pattern for your own topit. Not MUCH info about it, but worth a look, just the same.

And one was used in last night's "Dirty Tricks" to vanish the Rubik's Cube.

Yes, I thought so too - in his Beige jacket. If you've got it on video, you'll notice the jacket doesn't quite sit properly against his body after the cube has vanished.

I thought that a switch was made with the original cube being substituted for one that had a similar working to the vanishing bird cage.
I may be wrong but it was the way it was being held just before the vanish that led me to believe that this was the MO. Still very well performed though, for me this was the best routine of the show.

look for Patrick Page, he is a master of the topit...

I used to use the Topit a lot. Due to Pat Page. It is excellent for a vanish or switch in a one off situation such as a dealer dem, stand up show etc. But it's not too good for any form of hopping, be it pubs, weddings or restaurants because you have to take the item out of the Topit to repeat the trick.

It is possible to adapt your topit (although you permanently have to alter your jacket :wink:

) so that ditched items can simply be removed from your pocket.

You probably could, but when you put items into your topit they would always go to your pocket, unless you found a way to make a join
