A simple trick with a good reaction at the end................the magicain displays four blank faced cards. He deals the one by one into the spectators hand. He say " imagen that these four blank cards represent the four walls of a room", "what would start to appear on the walls if it were left for a year or two?"
Evevtually the spectator says "spiderwebs", "thats right says the magician. He then pics up the cards and upon each card is now printed a cobweb( not a rough n smooth). The magi then says he will get rid of the cobwebs by killing the spider...with a magic wave he shows the cards to be all blank again. But thats really cruel isnt it?????? So the magi, feeling guilty, asks teh spectator to help him bring the spiders back to life. The magician holds the cards and instructs them to wave thier hands over the cards....as they do so they notice a huge black hairy spider on the back of thier hand....this is an absolutley hilarious trick to do.especially for crowds.
It was about £10 from Alakazam and can be performed with relative ease although some slight and misdirection must be used.
i give it ..................9/10

Hi Alz...

I've been really curious about this one... does the spectator not notice you sticking what seems to be a rather large spider on the back of their hand???

Or is it quite light???

It looks like a great trick - similar to one where the card is revealed by a mini-bicycle card on the back of the hand.

I'd be very interested to hear how it works in that respect...

Thanks.

no-one has ever noticed......if you do everything natuarally and smoothly then you have nothing to worry about. the spider is made out of plastic with fur on the top.....i just stick it on there hand using doublesided tape. There to busy watchin the trick 2 notice the feel of something stuck 2 thiir hand.

Thanks for clearing that up!

I may just give it a go...

I'd seen the videos, but it looked to good to be true.
That's where the value of these forums shines... it saves us buying useless gimmicks that just nest in your bottom drawer for the rest of their lives.

Cheers!

I have a trick similar to this where the magi notices a fly and starts swatting with his hands. THe spec pulls out a card from the pack and looks at it, then replaces it.
The magi gets fed up and swats the fly with the spider.
As he fans through there is a blood stain on one card, that is th chosen card-with guilt the magi turns back the clock and the stains vanish. But the fly is nowhere to be seen so the magi asks the spectator to wave over the card and there is a fly-Brilliant trick and can always guarantee a brilliant reaction- you can even put a giant cocroach on their shoulder.

Benthompson...

Nice of you to tell us about that... but is it your own trick, or a commercial package?

If it's commercial, I'm sure people might appreciate the name of it???

I did this on my cousin and made her cry. She noticed before I got round to revealing it to her and she started screaming and smashing her hand off everything. I didnt know she hated spiders and I did ask and she said "Yes i like them i picked one up yesterday"

I also like the web but if you guys think making a spider appear a bit too scary for your audiance why not try the 'other' version of the trick called Catapillar Love and instead of a spider you end up with a rather nice butterfly.... same moves but far more tamer....try it...its good.

Interesting - this gets deeper and deeper...

So, we're up to 3 versions of the 'things appearing on the back of the hand' routine.

I must say, it reminds me of the Voodoo Ash routine (made popular by a certain street-magician). Now, if this is true, then basically the dynamics of the trick work like:

1: Card misdirection
2: Card sleights
3: Spectator interaction
4: Climax

So are these tricks basically more about the whole performance, rather than just the kicker at the end???

It seems that the final effect is simply a voodoo-ash type trick, but with different beginnings...

Any light to be shed...?

ok... this isnt really like the voodoo ash thing in the sense that you start with 5 cards and a bigass spider...

will post in magicians only bit....

You know what I meant!!!

Not the 'Blaine' trick with the name on the arm - I meant the age old trick of ash being transferred from the palm of your hand to the palm of the spectators hand - via the 'No, put your hands PALM DOWN LIKE THIS' misdirection...

Sorry for confusion... I forgot about Blaine's Voodoo Ash
(Sorry, David - I'll bury myself alive and freeze myself in ice as punishment... What's that? Oh, I sorry. I forgot, that's not punishment, that's how you earn money...)

i just thought i'd add my 'tuppence' worth re:THE WEB!

it's deffo an easy trick to perform and the 'load' of the spider is straightforward and unlikely to end in a bust... the card portion of the trick employs a very easy card sleight (but it tends to leave about half the audience nonplussed - it's very easy to work out if you think in that kind of way)... BUT... the payoff with the spider is pure gold... the last few times i've done it, i've had grown men screaming like babies!!!

an awesome trick that will break the ice at any kind of performance!

I tried this out for the first time over Xmas in front of a room of about 30 people. It worked a treat.

However, what surprised me most was that even though many people were sat down and me and the "victim" were standing up, noone spotted the load at any stage. Weird. I pre-empted this by asking the audience to not point out anything but in the end it wasn't needed.

I think this is a very strong comedy trick if used with the right crowd. But it can have the potential to spook people badly, so choose carefully.
