Childrens party prices

Postby Johnny Wizz » Oct 28th, '05, 09:17

Can anyone tell me what the going rate is for doing a childrens party? I am in Oxford so it isn't London pricing. I am starting to get asked to do them and am putting some new stuff together but I have no idea what to charge!

I think it would be interesting to see a number of posts regarding pricing.....it would be interesting to know how much, and how long, peoples presentations are.........I wouldn't mind seeing a bunch of situations, from stage, to close up, table-hopping, etc....

Scott Guin has some articles on this as do some of the other guys at Online-Visions.com (I think) - may be of use Moodini?

try using the search function inbetween the faq and usergroups at the top of the page.
you will find several threads on priceing some contributed by yours truly.

Thanks Magicdiscoman, your thread is just what I was looking for.

I called a local childrens entertainer yesterday to enquire about prices and they charge £50 per half hour, so much in line with you.

I am not at charging quality yet but especially with the kids stuff I am getting there. This gives me a good background idea about what is reasonable.

I used a few bits and pieces on the door last night with Trick or treaters. Secret Box to appear sweets, kids had to tap with a wand, did a TT silk vanish, brought Mars Bars out of a changing cloth and got them to help me get a drink out of A Foo Can. It all went down rather well.

I had one bunch of young teens who I did the Ultimate Transpo with. It was really good fun

Fabulas - Just at the right time.

The reason we charge that amount - not anymore / any less

We always try and remember that

1) We are only teenangers still - We are not full time magicians and both have alot of work so are restricted to only working weekends / holidays. Which is unfortunate but thats life!

2) To get the buissness we need to try and be "as good as the professionals" but not charging the amount porfessinals charge because we are not full time. (As much as we'd like to be)

People have told us to put up our prices for what we provide but we have too keep thinking reality!

Thw question we ask ourselves - Do we want to earn quite a bit of money for 1 gig that comes rarely. OR do we want to earn a little for each gig that comes quite often.
FOR US - We enjoy entertaining and that is why we set up. The fee is just to keep us going and give us a little pocket money.

ENTERTAINING is FUN - For us anyway! - Not all for money! Yes, money comes eventually!

OK, I'm talking for no reason now as if i know everything - I DONT! I am still learning these types of things but thats my veiw! lol

Hello J'

Thanks
Tom

I have read somewhere that they dont like it.

However i appreciate you comment about my comment. I hope it did sound too mad or as if i know everything when i certianly do not!

But i needed to work out something to say to people when they tell us to put up our prices and thats what came out in that post.
