THE TOP FIVE CONTENDERS.

Thinking about magic as we all do...struggling with the sleight or move that seems impossible! What does everyone think of compiling what are the hardest sleights in magic...i.e cardmagic coin magic, etc.
Lets say we start with card magic...what are the top five or top ten hardest sleights these could include flourishes...is the pass? or what about the palm?what sleight do you think is a demon to master? or could it be the devo, cobra cut....or the humble elmsley count... what do you think?

Sleights can be difficult to grade by difficulty - e.g. I never had much of a problem with the Elmsley Count but I know some people have.

However, two of them that are pretty darn difficult to get perfect are the pass (have you seen Kaufmann doing it?! wow...) and the second deal. Other candidates are the faro shuffle and the mercury card fold...but then, as I said, different people find different things hard.

^yup see i can do the pass perfectly but i can't do the top palm at all because i have large joints, so people can see the card through my hand.

The palm is used mainly in conjunction with misdirection.

Hardest sleight for me is the false deals and the pass.

Hardest flourish... the list goes on. Umm... probably Brian Tudor's Bad Habit at the moment. Then probably after that would be Brian Tudor's WTH.

At the moment I'm struggling with the pass but I think I'm getting quite far with a hybrid of the Hoffman Pass and Turnover Pass (without the turnover...if that makes sense, probably not!).

My palming until recently has been REALLY poor. It still won't withstand the strutiny of an audience but it's getting alot better. Just trying to make it look natural. Mostly practicing the One-Hand Top Palm.

Hey Stevebo, I've been practicing the "What The Hell Happened To Sybil" Cut aswell. I presume thats what you meant by WTH cut. Seeing your flourish ability I'm suer your doing a bit better with it than I am. Any chance of a quick video? Just so I know Tudor isn't the only person who can do it. How's your speed? That's the one thing I'm missing at the moment.

Nope. Sorry. Only got Generation Extreme a few days ago and have been busy these days. Anyhow, WTH utilizes Bad Habit which I cannot do. So....

Lots of the gambling sleights are the hardest stuff you can do, like a middle deal, advanced riffle stacking etc.

A technique I came up with a while ago (though I'm sure it's not original) involved using a riffle stack to put the selected card second from the top. I found this really useful because anyone who was wise to my controlling cards to the top before could be shown easily that it wasn't on top and wasn't on the bottom, this is usually more than enough to convince them it's truly lost in the deck when all i have to do is a DL, double undercut to show it on top.

Stevebo, I'm not familiar with the WTH. I've got his first two show off 1 & 2 videos. I haven't got "Show Off With Cards" or "Generation Extreme" yet.

i thnk that most of us agree. that list can be endless for, hard card sleights. but like anything in this world, practice is top of the list.,and you never stop learning.when i was learning the pass i found that a easy sleight...were i know some people find it hard...but when i was learning the hot shot cut that took practice ..but got there in the end...i saw a magician do a sleight two years ago which blew me away ...did not know what it was ...until i saw ian kendall demo for the top shot flicking cards with his pinky .... and managed to work out how it was done ...and until last night i was having real problems with it...but have worked it out and got it down to the fact of firing the cards out like bullets just got to catch them. if there is anyone who would like tips onthe hot shot or top shot and has not got ians cd dvd i would be happy to help...

Yu know what...that's a good point. I saw it on penguin when I did a search on Brian Tudor just to see what was available. After looking back at "show off with cards" on penguin it seems that no name is mentioned on who does it. So who was it?
