I've just got the NFW and have found it to be a great trick but i find it hard to confidently do the elmsley count.
Can anyone help??

Ben

I agree wholeheartedly that the Elmsley, whilst undeniably being a gorgeous move, is very hard to feel confident with. But there are better ways to describe it than in the NFW leaflet!!! (But not outside the MO area, unfortunately!)

Tip for showing all cards as jokers at the start
One more glorious move for NFW to show all jokers at the start is the Flushtration Count, which has a wonderful retention of vision effect, which actually lets you count the cards perfectly - showing a joker on the face each time.

Another beautiful variation is the Orion count, which uses a gorgeous twisting motion to count off the cards. I discovered the Orion count on the marvellous McClintock Twist video, and use it extensively now.

The Flushtration count I learned from a Jay Sankey video, I think?

I can PM you the technique, if you're stuck.

Thankyou
Ben

This is proving a lot harder to document than I'd hoped... some of my moves are quite difficult to explain without pictures...

THEREFORE...

I will be photographing my hands and posting the resulting document in the MO section...

Thanks for your patience!

OK, but on the strict understanding that you don't photograph any other parts of your anatomy and post them on this forum!

Slightly more seriously, you've probably all seen the NFW! demo vids at penguin and on jbtv and, of the 2, the penguin one looks far more professional. Would anyone care to hazzard a guess/offer expert opinion as to which method is used to display the 4 jokers?

Ta, ever so.

Yes, I can reveal how it's done... I'll post that handling in the MO section too. It's the first one I learned, actually, after disregarding the basic handling supplied.

The guy on Penguin (Oz) quite often offers better handlings...

I'll post tonight... watch that space!

Which reminds me of the guy who went to the Doctor with a remote control car shoved down his Y fronts and said, ' Doc ya gotta help me by removing this car - it's driving me nuts.'

OK, back to the day job, then.

I've tried to key in the instructions, but I read them back, and they make not a lot of sense without pics, therefore I'll either illustrate the post or simply just photograph my hands to accompany.

It'll be in the MO section - but users who can't get access to the MO section just need to PM me with PROOF that they own NFW and I'll let them have a 'secret' web URL where I'll also publish the document.

I hope I'm not being pushy - but how are the photo's coming of your hands Seige?

Talking of hands, that reminds me of that age old joke...

Me: I bet I can make you turn your hands over without touching them.
bloke in pub: I bet you can't
Me: Ok hold your hands out in front of you.
BIP: <holds out hands in front of him>
Me: No, other way up.
BIP: <turns hands over>
Me: There you go...

Had to cut session short last night due to mother nature removing a section of our fence - which needed pretty quick remedial action.

The photo session may not be what's in order - and I've decided to video the move instead.

There will be a manuscript plus a downloadable accompanying video (Quicktime only) available.

I'll publish the URL as soon as it goes 'live'.

Please be patient with me...

Oh pooh! Guess who's computer refuses to download and/or run Quicktime?! No worries, I'll work on the one at home as I think that's more amenable - look forward to the forthcoming release!

PS Sorry to hear about the fence!

Just for you guys, I've bought an application that allows me to author AVI files, which will play on your lovely PC's in Windows Media Player.

I got it yesterday - and fiddled with it last night - and it looks to do the job. The nice thing about the NFW demo that I've done is that it has taught me two things about performance that I'd not come across before:

1: Even though I'm reasonably confident, my pacing suggests that I'm not. I pause too long to let things sink in with the spectator - and yet it's more natural not to.

2: There's a move of my own in there call the 'A over T rotation', which has been a little baby of mine for some time - and I've always found it difficult to describe. By doing the video with accompanying notes, I've broken the move down into sub-moves, and consequently improved my technique. Brilliant!

Anyway, fingers crossed - our workload here is slowing down... time to get some serious magic time in at the weekend (her indoors permitting...)
