i was preforming to some children(12ish maybe 14ish) one time and this one kid want to take any card he wanted and then put it back where ever he wanted. So i let him but i just used some forces and a couple slights and made up a trick on to spot and out of dumb luck it worked and the kid walked away satisfied.

He wanted to slide it in amongst the others and it was going to be difficult to force the issue. So, I let him do aso then asked him to pick another card. Once he was memorising it, I bowed the deck. He once again wanted to put the damned thing in a random place, but now it was the only unbowed one. I found it, which was good in itself, made sure he knew it was his card without me peeking at it, explained that this is the top of the deck, and carried on.

Just riffle down the deck, get them to say stop, put their card into that position, then either do a pass or a double undercut :D

Not being proficient enough to perform to people yet, this isn't a problem I've had. However in the future it's conceivable I might, but then again, I'm over six foot and sixteen stone, and have a shaved head- a black look usually works for me.

DoctorDeath [for it is he]: "YOU! Pick a card! NOW!"

Spec [very meekly]: "Yessir...this one, sir? Please don't kill me."

Pehaps there'll be a new crime in the future: demanding magic with menaces!

And if you get the card wrong, then just tell them that that was their card or they will be sleepin' with the fishes

Another neat little thing to do, is produce the wrong card intentionaly ... wait for them to start kicking up a fuss about it ... then ask them what there card was and shapeshifter the wrong one into the right! ... that'll teach em!

Perfect way to deal with idiots when you are performing.

"Now listen mate, I don't disturb you when your at work do I? No, I just walk in, order my cheese burger and off I toddle."

Should have seen the guys face when I said that to him. He was the laughing stock for the rest of the night!

Ben Elton used to do a routine about comics picking on audience members along the lines of, "I don't ask you to come down to the factory and work my lathe, so get back on the stage and start doing your job!"

I hate doing magic tricks for drunk people because they just simply dont follow directions. That is why I ususally do Brainwave or els the ID that way there is no way the trick can get screwed up. I remember one time at a party I was trying to do the 2 card monte but it was impossible because even though I said keep the cards face down he insisted on looking at them however I finally said to him well I cant test your memorie if you keep looking at them. I said maybe you are just embarrased that you have bad memorie and wont be able to follow the cards lol then he was like oh ya well I will so the trick went awesome and he was impressed. End theory very hard to do tricks to drunk people however once you nail them you get the best reaction because they are so drunk they are amazed hahaha.

If presented well, the ID is wasted on drunk people (as most magic is) although I do agree that at times it is hard to avoid those who are a bit worse for wear.

The ID in the right hands can produce wonderful reactions from the specs and I think that this deck is often under rated simply because it's one of those decks that nearly all magicians get at an early stage and is often learned but seldom mastered.

Ithink it's a question of control. If your patter skills are up to it and you can get them to think of really obscure things, drunks are fun to do a quick one ahead with because their brains aren't quite in gear. Speaking of which, it's nearly midday. Time to start inducing said state.

Dat8962, I couldn't agree with this more. When well presented its a mind blowing effect.

Hey all

Dug up an old photocopied book/sheet thingy i bought at a magic lecture called Heckler Stoppers, effectively a book of witty 'cuses' centered around magic, also including a range of icebreakers and other things you can include in your routines. Look out for it. Has a nice range too, allowing you to totally ruin that fu**ing heckler, or just lightly take the mick. Like to use the lighter range on family members who can't seem 2 accept a trick is a trick, and attempt to investigate every tiniest detail.

Worthwhile buy - look out for it

All the best

Happy holidays

Alex
