Hello to all magicians out there!

Postby ultimatecreate » Dec 24th, '05, 12:35

Hey all

My names Alex and im a student studying Ancient History @ Bristol uni. Been doing magic on and off for a few years now, but after finding this awsome website last summer (and forgetting to introduce myself until now, doh!) im determined to learn the 'ways of the force'.

As im on here, I may as well include a quick couple of questions ive got:

Firstly, ive recently been getting quite nifty with a few good card tricks (watch this space for a few vids im working), but I wouldn't mind learning a few good ungimmicked coin tricks using sleight of hand. I know RRTCM is the bible for cards, but is there one for coins? As well as this can u suggest anywhere to learn some advanced flourishes? It'd be great if someone could email me or mabey they could be posted on this site considering it isn't actually a trick?

Secondly, my dad has a tonne of magic in the loft, and i wondered; does flash paper/string (for want of a better term) 'go off'?

many many thanks, and i look forward to hearing from you all :D

Alex

Welcome Alex,

I would love to advise you on the coin magic but unfortunatly its not somthing i've venture into yet.

Look forward to seeing the video's once you get round to finishing them off.

As it's Christmas I'll only stick one or two pins in this SirRawlins wax effigy

I always feel sorry for those who study history - every day there's more of the stuff to learn  . Anyway, back to the plot - greetings and welcome UMC, J.B. Bobo's Modern Coin Magic is acknowledged tro be the RRTCM of coin work and is less than a tenner from places like www.cards4magic.co.uk. Plenty of ideas in there to keep you busy!

Michael Ammar has a video out called "Introduction to Coin Magic" or something similar, and it seemed very good to me...

Mandrake is right, "Modern Coin Magic" is regarded as the classic text on coin work. I would also suggest you take a look at the work of David Roth.

Alex,
Just a quick note on Modern Coin Magic, if your expecting it to be the Royal Road of coin work it isnt. Royal Road is a structured training text providing a series of progressive lessons in card magic. MCM is more of a complete reference on coin work. If your starting out you may want to pick up a beginners DVD, which will provide some structure for you.

Anyone got any suggestions? I would but I'd get hammered for having no taste. 8)

Hi and welcome to TalkMagic,

After a introducing yourself to the basics of coin magic, from one of the books mentioned above - Jay Sankey has a good 'Intermediate Level' Dvd called Revolutionary Coin Magic - that really helped me, and took my coin magic, that step further.
Good Luck.
