I got an email on monday telling me it has been shipped.

..and this comment

International orders can take between 1-4 WEEKS via Airmail. You are
responsible for any taxes or duties imposed by your country

How will I know, will there be a letter with it? or will the postman say something?

The postman would normally ask for a signature and payment before releasing the item to you - there should be a small form stuck to the parcel showing how much is required and this will be your only receipt. If he doesn't ask for any payment then there isn't a charge to be collected. If they just stick the parcel through the letterbox or hand it over without comment then that's all there is to it - best of luck!

So I will have to pay it there and then? He won't say take the money to the post office?

How much money should I have ready just incase?

All will be revealed when it's actually delivered, I don't know how old you, I'm assuming you're quite young, but it's really not that complicated or difficult, it happens to thousands of people everyday.

The amount required could be about 20% of the cost of the item - this will be 17.1/2% VAT, if applicable, and 2 or 3% Import Duty but that could vary up to quite a bit more. If the items being imported are books then there's no VAT so it all depends on what you've ordered and the value.

If you don't have enough money to pay when they first try to deliver you can ask them to take it back to the local sorting office so you can collect it later on (with some I.D.!) when you have the full amount to be paid. If there's nobody at home when they try to deliver there's a good chance they'll leave a card advising you and giving the times of opening of the sorting office so you can collect. There's usually a limit as to how long they will hold on to an item before returning it but, as this is of USA origin, I doubt they'll actually send it all the way back there without giving you plenty of time.

As MightyNubbin wisely says, this happens to thousands of folks every day and the systems are very well established.

I'm sorry Dat, but then you would have to pay tax to me for sending the tax, so there is no point

It works on my DVD player, which is good but not on my PC? Doesn't even read?
