Siegie, great coin across rountine.

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Siegie, great coin across rountine.

I've sent you this PM, and I remember what it said in the rules, "No copyright infrigement." Since the coin across is a classic rountine (At least I think so...and since this seems to be the most basic, and less effective method) I think its OK. If it's not, I'll edit it. I'm posting it here to get other peoples opinions.

I hope this is OK.

Hey, great video!

Unfortunately, i've concentrated all of my will into sponge balls. They are easy to manipulpate (alot of times coins are too). I tried googlng backpalming a coin (Someone here described it to me, but I really need some pictures) but could find nothing. I wonder if your rountine uses this? ( I have the Mark Wilson's MAGIC A complete course one)

Basically, (and its very basic) compared to what you did, you start out with a coin palmed in your hand.

Another (and ideal) thing you could do, is remove 6 coins. Let the spectators examine them (I use silver half dollars, I collect all types of coins, (I'm a numismatist) so its easy for me to get them..) and then its so easy to just grab and classic palm the one in my pocket (misdirection)

I then do it as follows:
I lay them in rows of 3. Each row is parallel to the other.
I pick up 3 coins on the left row, and them, one at a time, in my end. As I put in the last coin in my left hand, I immediately throw in the palmed coin, and then immediately close my hand. Then there is another row of 3 coins on the right row. I classic palm 2 coins, in a stack, and pick up the third, keeping the stacked palmed coins seperate. (Note: I do NOT push thtem into my fist..never heard of this method)

Then the coin my right hand, instantly travels, one at a time, to my left hand. When I'm left with one coin, I can just lap the coin.

Unfortunately, people really aren't that surprised with the trick. It just doesn't have that "Wow!" effect like spongeballs, or the thumb clip switch where you take a coin (or a sponge ball) and switch them.

I really like your rountine. However, I'm not sure how you show your hands 'empty' when you are palming the coin. I know there is a techinque where you can turn your hand half way while palming the coin to make it appear like your hand is empty; when it is not.

Thank you.

Oh, here's his video: http://www.nothingupmysleeve.co.uk/coinsacross/

Thanks for such a great video, it is smashing!
(Another british term, ;) )

Spongeball,
the trick you are describing is Winged Silver and is a classic (you really need to get Bobo's).
The "coins across" that Siege performs on his website is (and he clearly states this) Jay Sankey's Slow Motion Coins Across. It can be found on his Front Row Sankey DVD (which is an excellent DVD btw).
However it isn't strictly a coins across. A coins across describes the passage of the coins from one hand to another (like Winged Silver). Slow Motion is actually a coins to pocket routine, all at once. If you like this then have a look at Jay Sankey's Revolutionary Coin Magic (on video or DVD) and his No Jacket Required.
If you like coin magic then I would say that this is a good second stop after Bobo.
Another resource would be Ron Bauer's Performance Scripts from www.thinklikeaconjurer.com . These don't just give the full work on the tricks, they provide a full script with an entertaining presentation and misdirection. If you like coins then Gadabout Coins Revisited, Butch Ringo and the Sheep are two that will appeal to you.

Cheers

Coins across

Postby DrTodd » Feb 5th, '06, 11:53

I like to do mine starting and ending clean with four coins only.

Show all four cascaded on right hand and turn the hand down, classic palm one while dumping three into the left hand.

Show one has passed from left right by showing the coin in the rights and then dumping one coin from the left onto the table while pretedning to dump the coin from the right. Keep the coin classic palmed in the right and retain the other two in the left.

Pick up the coin on the table with the right fingers and keep it fingerl palmed. You now have one classic palmed and one finger palmed. Drop the classic palmed coin onto the finger palmed coin to make a nice clink. That is now two coins passed from left to right.

Dump the two coins from the left onto the table while pretending they are dumped from the right, which classic palms both its coins in a stack. Be sure to keep the left closed as the illusion is that you have dumped two coins from the right.

Pick up both coins with right and keep finger palmed. You should have two classic palmed and two finger-palmed in the right. Gesture with the left that the remaining coins will jump from left to right. Release one of the classic palmed coin to click onto the two finger palmed coins.

Throw them on the table and say three coins have now passed. Pick them up again and hold them in a finger palm.

Release the last classic palmed coin onto the three coins with a clink, display them as a cascade and slowly open the left hand to show it empty.

Start clean, end clean, no extra coins needed!

Hey mate, sounds good mate. Do you have a video of this I could buy? My birthday is feburary 13th and I might get some money (I'm turning 18).

Sounds really good. Hehe , unfortunately though, I'm a bit confused by what to do. My reading comprehension has always been terrible, but I'll try to do it anyway. What is this 'cascade' you are talking about with the coins?

Wow, close up magic for 30 years! Not sure if I can do this mate, I've always been the master of sponge balls not coins! Great rountine!

My rountine is the normal and boring Mark Wilson's where you have actually 7 coins , one is classic palmed while taking out of your pocket, then each one, one at a time, travels to the left hand, until all 6 are. As a final finish, I lap the last one.

Unfortunately, this doesn't as good of a reaction as sponeg balls.

But what does, is, I take a half dollar. Retention vanish it to the left hand, then finger palm it, I can then flash my right hand to show its empty (while the middle and ring fingers cover the coin cleverly), then take the other coin on the table, thumb clip it, and viola, 2 coins in the left hand, that magically travelled!

Also, 2 stacked coins right now seem kinda hard to palm. I'm 5'7'', and 17, my thumb muscles aren't that well build up, although I can do a classic palm alright, I can also do 2 classic palmed stacked coins although my hand looks alot less unnauatral.
