Making a site

Postby ultimatecreate » Feb 8th, '06, 18:11

Hey there!

Eventually id love to get into pro magic, and for that I'd need a website. Can anyone suggest a good place to look for a step-by-step guide in makign a basic website that i can wack a few comments, allow others to comment + post videos and pics?

Many thanks

Alex

For a start you don't need a website to be a professional magician and secondly, if you want it as a basis for your professional engagements you definately shouldn't be building it yourself, unless you've had formal training in how to build websites. A "step-by-step" guide won't be half as good as somebody sitting you down and teaching you the finer points of web design. Also, you will definately need some specific software, such as Dreamweaver to do the things that you mentioned. This doesn't come cheap.

All the best,

Will Wood

Well, if you want totally free you're going to have to live with ads - that's the way life works. If you do a bit of Googleing I'm sure you can find a free web server; that's not hard.

If you want a little better than that you can get your own domain name (e.g. magic.co.uk) for a few pounds a year. If you want to be able to host your own website you'll also need some webspace. My deal is £30 for two years, including 50MB webspace and a lot of bandwidth (not sure how much exactly, a few Gb). You can get it at www.domainbuster.com.

hi ultimatecreate
im not sure who your isp is but most broadband isp's offer free webspace nowdays and they give you easy to use tools to create your own website, i guess how proffesional it looks depends on how well you design it.
so check with your isp 1st

if your going to start from scratch, i would reccomend using software like Dreamweaver, Ms Front page to build your site, but an understanding of HTML would be an advantage and dosent take much learning.

if you Google for 'Free webspace' or 'HTML Tutorials' , you will find more than enough free info/tools available, be warned the free webspace often comes with advertisment banners along the top of your site (annoying) but thats why its free.

hope this helps!
:)

You can Learn HTML, CSS, Javascript and much more here.

This is a W3C site which teaches you it, so it is all correct and brilliant :D
