Effect: A spectator freely selects a card, then places it on top of the deck. The card is shown again, then placed in the spectator's hand. The next card on the deck is shown to the spectator, then rubbed on the back of the spectator's hand. When the cards are again looked at, they have switched places.

A great trick that costs nothing, other than the price of a couple of decks of cards. This trick has been one that I have used many times, and even the most troublesome spectators have been amazed with this. I'm sure that everyone has a little bit of a different method, but however you do this, it's always cool. There's a video of David Blaine doing this on his website, but he does a terrible job of p**ming the top card, and if you know how this trick is done, he's terribly obvious, but the spectators (the Dallas Cowboys in that particular video) don't even notice.

I'd like to say that this is one of my favorite card tricks and stuns spectators all the time. But I'd like to point out that p**ming is not required for this trick, and actually diminishes the effect. If you watch the Blaine video carefully, you will see that he doesn't p**m the top card, he is actually performing a different sleight. It is difficult to understand what he is actually doing because his performance was sloppy. If you listen carefully you can hear him say "say stop" to the spectator, meaning he intended to make the spectator apparently replace his card in the middle of the deck. But he sort of rushed through it and made it look awkward. I believe this was the intended effect: A card is freely selected and is then replaced in the MIDDLE of the deck. In an instant the top card is turned over and it's the spectator's card, which was magically transported to the top! That card is placed in the spectator's closed hands. The magician displays the next card on top of the deck, and rubs it on top of the spectator's closed hands. In a flash the two cards switch places!
This is the effect that I perform, and i think it's the effect Blaine intended to show. It is a fabulous effect because it combines Ambitious Card along with the switch. I perform this all the time, and it never fails to get a great response.
