when i perform this colour change, noticeable noise is made, which is enough for some of my audience to understand how it was performed. does anyone know if this noise can be reduced?

Do it slowly. The cover is really important. Keep the cover really low so that when the move is executed, it doesn't hit your palm as hard and it reduces the sound. But I've never really had a problem with the change even with the noise.
