I would like to introduce myself

Postby JamesPhysit » Apr 14th, '06, 20:31

I would like to introduce myself. My name is James and I am in Austin TX. I am a newcomer to magic and my motivations are two fold.

I enjoy amazing others and having a positive impact on their life, but my primary motivation comes from watching mentalism acts. My curiosity is piqued by the phenomenon of "sleight of minds."

I am working to learn some basic sleights of hand, techniques to forma foundation of immediate practice as I learn and develop techniques of mentalism.

I look forward to learning a lot, and hopefully I can soon contribute to this community.

Thank you for the greetings.

As a reply to you, Delude, I have not really done any cards tricks that require some sort of sleight. I will in all likelihood purchase "Born to perform," as it seems to be what I am looking for.

The one real effect I have performed, for friends, is one where the audience will pick out four cards from a fanned pile, I finish by picking a fifth, and then I reveal the hand to be exactly right., (all the while using conversation to pull attention away from how it was done).

Another find for me, a gift actually, was Derren Brown's two books: Absolute Magic and Pure Effect. While I quickly realized that the books were a bit over my head at this point, I found the concepts fascinating, and left me wanting more.

As I learn and explore, I hope to be an active part of this community in the near future.
