Can't say too much as it gets close to exposure but the word 'stack' comes to mind. The cards in the water could be a variation of the card castle effect which Luke Jermay describes in one of his books where he knows which cards are face up and which are face down after the castle is toppled from the table.

i told my girlfriend how he did a couple of his effects from the last show. i think i've ruined the whole thing for her now. i was sat there going "oh come on, he's just TELLING them it's 2pm, come one!! no one should fall for that" of course not everyone studies this kind of thing so....

the card in water was quite a nice trick, although whoever went to clean up the cards would have looked at a couple for a minute curiously (in a dive suit of course) and then gone "ah... it's so obvious now..." but underwater ofcourse.
given this, he must employ his own "trick cleaning upper" people as to not give away secrets!

Even if they were marked, he did actually have his eyes held shut.

If anyone has seen Derrens devils picturebook. They would know that he is quite skillful with a deck of cards. On another note Greg Wilson did Vernon's boat trick on one of his DVD's

Isn't this effect and version of Derren's Plethoria from his book 'Pure Effect'?

Yes I think it is incredibly similar. I expected him to use that trick at some point in the series, and have been looking out for it so was excited when this trick appeared!
