Card through window

Postby leighton » May 20th, '06, 15:06

Spoilt.......

I have a 5 year old daughter that seems to work out most of my tricks!
I was just trying CTW for the first time and she shouted out look at that, it is your card in the window.... well before the trick was finished!
or the punchline was ready to be revealed.

I also have a 12 year old that is amazed at anything I do!

So do you think that the inocence of younger children is more pure and therefore more prone to seeing the workings of the basics of magic?

Or is it just my child that spoils my tricks?

I made my wife dissapear just by arguing with her!!!

No not just yours. I was watching Doc Eason's Bar Magic, he was explaning the "I screwed up" the nuts&bolts tricks. He said that kids can guess the correct number not adults. I have a nephew at the age 5, and he always finds my coin so I guess they are immune to magic. :)

I have a 7 year old cousin who can see my french drop, DL, pass, and loads of other things i do that most adults never even think are happening when i show them. Its rather annoying. I've put her in the hecklers pile and dont show her magic anymore.

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

I don't believe it's because kids are immune to magic, more that they are very observant and haven't yet learnt to make assumptions like adults do.

We olduns tend to assume that things happen in a particular way and only start paying attention when it's too late and everything's done and dusted.

That's why you should never repeat a trick when asked to do so.

Aye... olduns assume more. We expect things to happen in a certain way, so our mind sort of fills in the blanks.

Ambitious card routines get the best reaction from the sort of people who believe what they see because they have no reason to assume their eyes might be deceiving them. Philosophy students on the other hand are a pain in the bum :D

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Last weekend I was doing some magic in a birthday party for people of my age, near 30. Most of them friends. And there was a young girl, she was 10. She didn´t discover anything, luckily, and she was very excited with an ambitious card routine. I think that it depends on your clean performance, and on the public´s will to be amazed.
With childrens, you must be as clen and natural as possible. If not, they will discover you.
