How musical are we all?

Postby AJ82 » Jun 12th, '06, 19:58

There has been a whole bunch of posts about music recently so I thought I would take it one step further... How many of us play instruments? I went out today and got an electric guitar as I fancied learning something new and I wondered how many musical people we had in this forum.

I put guitar, because that is the main instrument I play, but I also play the banjo and the piano as well :D

I absolutely adore music, I don't think people understand how serious I am when I talk about how much I love music, but it really effects me! If I hear a great song it will keep me up all night just thinking about it. I am able to appreciate just about every type of music (with a few exceptions such as: country western, "bling" rap, and that crud they have on shows like "American Idol").

I am absolutely not musical. Not at all. I played piano several years ago and was a total klutz at it - scraped through a grade 1 pass and that's it, thank goodness.

It's funny, because it seems that I fit pretty closely into a mathsy stereotype apart from the music. I like computers, good at maths, don't really like english, etc etc.

I like listening to music though, even though I'm not nearly as dedicated as Mr. Rabbit above. Just please don't play any metal or rap. Aargh.

I play guitar and a little piano. I played the trumpet in junior high/high school - but didn't enjoy it.

Rabbit - who are some of your favorite guitarists?

Andrés Segovia is a very big inspiration to me (probably the biggest inspiration), also Nick Drake, Sam Beam (from Iron & Wine), José González, and alot more I don't know the names of, I like to listen to classical/spanish guitar for inspiration, the simplicity of it is what I like, orchastral music is good at times, but I like things simple... one MAYBE two instruments top, acoustic music is my favorite.

I was gonna ask if that picture at the bottom was you rabbit, but I saw someone said Mr Rabbit, so I guess not.

Well, I've had at various lessons at points: Recorder, Cello, Trombone, Piano, and have dabbled with both electric and acoustic guitar.

Piano was really the only thing I was ever any good at, it just suited me. I have no idea why. I haven't played for quite some time though.

Ah, the ocarina or reinvented ocarina?

I used to play in a punk band in the very early 1980s. We were so terrible someone in the pub on Saturday afternoon was still talking about us! Seriously!

Sadly Ecko, I very much get the reference...

I am a guitarist (acoustic and electric - classical, too!), but also dabble in the playing of the: melodica, ukulele, omnichord and just recently - sitar!
