changing weak poker hand into strong one?

Postby sauruman » Jun 21st, '06, 05:13

I saw this vid on the internet of a guy taking a 5 card poker hand that was pretty weak and simply running his index finger along the corner of each card and changing the hand into a straight flush. Anyone know what sleight/s were used?

The effect is known as "Zapped". It was featured during the credits to the movie Shade (Awesome movie, btw), as well as on a few tv specials.

It's a marketed effect, so you can easily find it at any online magic shop. If you're really interested, make the investment.

There are other effects like that

I don't think I'd call anything you do with Zapped really 'sleights', the cards are gaffed and not examinable... but it's an amazing effect, and fairly cheap too (about £15ish new from the site I saw it on, I think it was, but you can probably get it for less)

I use a variation on an effect called the Master Poker Deal where you demonstrate a slow bottom deal to get the 4 aces and then pretend that you're demonstrating something called a 'middle deck' deal which the specs ALWAYS fall for.

You end up dealing yourself a Royal Flush to a stunned reaction.

Does Bannon have a version of that poker deal effect? Or is that the exact effect you're talking about?

Hey dat, I use that poker trick all the time too. I also use a combination of culling and openly moving the aces to get the appropriate set-up so i can do it impromptu now.

Anyone wondering WTF we're on about can see a video I made a long time ago: POKER TRICKS

It's a double video with my other favourite Poker themed trick "Riffle Stop Poker".

For those interested they can be found on...

The version that I use is the one taught on the Thirteen DVD but I've adapted the patter.

Master poker deal looks great, but isn't there something very similar in Royal Road where you deal yourself 4 Kings by dealing them off the bottom but then when you 'do it properly you can't tell' and you end up with 4 Aces, or something like that? I'll go have a look...

...Yep here it is, it's called "A Poker Puzzle", if you're interested
