in some cases, it is the numerous replies to "silly posts" that keep them at the top of the thread list. Members feeling the need to "scold" someone for a post that they feel is wrong or not thought through should consider ironically... and this is a rare TRUE use of this word which is often confused with coincedence... ironically, it is the post to repremand the author that keeps it at the top of this list of topics.

there is an episode of The Simpsons that tells us what to do about "bad advertising" and this logic can be applied to bad posts... ignore it and it will disappear.

There are a couple of posts there which suggest that only a few newcomers have a genuine interest in magic. This is exactly the point which has made many of them feel unwelcome - they are being generalised, pre-judged and put in the same category as the idiots who post the same daft stuff on other non-magic forums - unless we give them chance to settle in and become comfortable enough to make and refine their posts, we can't know for sure. I'd stress that those are not my words but the words of some who have taken time to send a PM and explain their concerns. We can all spot the idiots and those posts are usually edited or deleted very swiftly. The remaining posts may not be to everyone’s liking – including mine – but they are not automatically less valid. Of course it’s a pain having to read through loads of uninteresting posts but it depends on how often visits are made and the sort of backlog to plough through – think how much of a job the Mods have in trying to check each and everyone in case something is amiss! If we had half the number of posts per day there’s absolutely no guarantee that the percentage of silly stuff would be any the less – the only difference would be that it would take less time and TM would be offering less of a variety of posts and discussions.
