I ordered the devils picturebook a few days ago..........can't wait until it arrives. Ahh, the anticipation.

I'm really looking forward to it, even thougn I know most of it will be way beyond my current level, it will certainly give me something to aspire to.

From personal experience, how long does the DPB usually take to arrive?

The stuff on DPB is excellent but certainly not beyond the reach of most serious magicians. In fact, some of the secrets are so basic you'll kick yourself when you find out!

Thanks Mandrake, that last sentence has me really excited now and my mind is working like crazy.

I think most of the first disk, for the time being anyway, will be beyond my current skills. At least I won't be able to do the tricks justice, lets just say that. But I am looking forward to some of the psychological stuff, like the mental card forces and watching Derren's misdirection.

I've not been doing magic for very long, so I've still got tons to learn....to give you an idea of where I'm at, I'm currently working my way through card college 2. So I suspect there are moves needed for some of the pieces in DPB which I have not even learn't yet?

Mandrake, How long did your copy of DPB take to arrive, if you don't mind me asking?

Bear in mind this was waaaay back in the days when DPB was only available on PAL VHS Cassette but it took about a week and a half. At the time the site was suggesting a waiting period of up to three weeks was the norm.

Ha! I know exactly what you mean now Mandrake....it arrived in the post yesterday. When I watched the explanation for EME I laughed a lot and then let out a few expletives...I couldn't believe it. Amazing trick and an even more amazing method.

DPB is a 10/10.......amazing stuff with clear explanations, too. Oh and a hillarious ending.

It's very reassuring to know that he cheated as much as we do, in fact, he tells everyone that's what he does - a mixture of "magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection and showmanship" He's a very honest chap!

There isn't much to add to this that hasn't already been said above but I'll do my best...

Having been a layman fan of Derrens for many years I was loaned this Dvd by a friend and it was this, coupled with his own close up card manipulation that rekindled my childhood interest in magic. That was around 6 months ago.

I have since bought my own copy and have to say I never get tired of watching it, I'll usually have a short time to spare and stick one of the effects on to watch. Rather predictably one turns into several and before too long I've spent another hour watching it.

Watching him perform EME and finally realising the simple (Grrrr) way it is done it becomes clear that although a lot of close up card magic takes skill and hours of practise to perfect, the real magic lays in the subtleties of the presentation.

Derren is a master of both!

As a beginner/novice to magic I feel although most of the material on the discs is beyond my current skill level, I certainly don't feel it is out of my reach and as has been mentioned in several of the 19 pages above it gives me something to aspire to.

Novice, intermediate or expert (although I expect most experts will already have a copy) there is something for everyone on this set and although it maybe seems a little pricey I feel once you have watched it you won't regret spending the money.

If you already own this, watch it again and remind yourself how good it is. If you don't already own it then hey, what's another £45 on top of all the silks, cards, rabbits and top hats!

Shaun.

Is this still available through Derren Brown's website? I found a link to a magic section there at the end of last year, but the website seems to have been redesigned since then and I can't find it now.

Anyone here ever use his Out of This World from this DVD?

I've seen a very good local performer using it. He was performing closeup table magic in a bar and he came to my table and performed for my friends, who all explained to me exactly how the trick worked because they could see the condition of the cards. I was never a fan of the method (there's nothing wrong with Curry's original!) but I'd never go near it after that evening.
