The Ipswich Magical Society Convention October 22nd 2006

Postby bananafish » Jun 25th, '06, 14:55

The Event: The Ipswich Magical Society Convention 2006. aka. "The Friendly One"
Date: Sunday October 22nd 2006.
Venue: Needham Market (Between Ipswich and Stowmarket)

I know it's still very early days, but I am getting a lot of questions on this one, so I thought I would post early, even though we still have many acts for the Gala show not confirmed yet.

Tickets will go on sale late July.

The current details can be found here. It may be worth checking back every now and again. IMS Convention 2006. I can guarantee it will be a very special day, and what a better opportunity to meet up with fellow IMS Members.

Amongst the performers this year we have...

* Paul Daniels, Lecture, Close-Up and Evening Show.
* Oz Pearlman, Lecture, Close-Up and Evening Show.
* Roy Davenport, Lecture, Close-Up and Evening Show.

There are of course other performers in the Gala show, and I will let you have more details as soon as they are confirmed. The compere of the show will be our very own Captain Fantastic (aka Marc Jacobs) who is going to be flying back from his home in the Tenerife especially for the convention.

I haven't had confirmation back from all the dealers yet, but I have been promised that Alakazam will have a stall. Due to unforseen circumstances they couldn't make it last year and they were greatly missed (and Peter Nardi calls himself a Mentalist! pah!).

So beware all CUPS sufferers! (Maybe we could hold a meeting of CUPS Anonymous?)

I will be traveling over 2000 miles to get to this one. This is because I feel this is something that is definately not to be missed.
Everyone from this forum should get to this one then you can kill 2 birds with one stone and have that illusive TM meet-up that everyone seems to be on about and witness one of the best convetions of the year at the same time!!!

Don't miss it!! (the compere is amazing)

Hopefully I can meet some of the other guys here...

And maybe even some of the ladies.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could persuade the likes of Mandy, Kerry, WickedWitchoftheWeb, AJ82, Roxy, Lozey, Zhoraida and of course - never forgetting, Mistress of Magic - to attend.

I am sure Kerry will attest to the fact that it is indeed a brillaint convention, and Mandy - Ally would love to see you there...

I WILL be attending this year. Without a doubt. After my other half was picked out when Paul Daniels performed at the Empire Theatre, Halstead, I even have her permission to come along, too! I've got a feeling I'll need two tickets.

I actually can not wait for this. I'm not going to buy any magic until the convention...

That's a good idea! Me neither!

Well, apart from a Super Sharpie - I mean, that doesn't count, it's actually really useful and you can do some great effects with it.

And a 2p expanded shell, they're good too and I really should try to broaden out from cards a little. Yes, definitely one of those.

And some rope, rope magic is cool!

Magic is real, just look around you, some of the most amazing things have no reason, no explanation but are very real.

I am actually coming this year, Bananafish - my girlfriend wants to come too, especially since she reckons she's best mates with Paul Daniels after his show in Halstead!

I've heard on the grapevine that I might be getting the full Art of Astonishment series of books for my birthday later this month... so it's possible that I won't be buying any more magic until October.

Crikey - if that set of books doesn't stop me buying magic, nothing will!

Can anyone actually turn up to this event, of do you have to be a member of a club or something?

You don't have to be a member of a club, you just need a healthy interest in magic (actually it doesn't even have to be that healthy). If you found talk magic that is a good start.

Tickets may or may not be available on the door. We expect (hope?) to sell out this year - due to the line up, and so buying tickets in advance is the safest way to go. Tickets will be available by the end of the month.
