ive heard of boon, nail, thumb, metal, plastic, swami, etc....

dont know what to think about it anymore.

then some guys say the super sharpie is way better..

It comes down to personal preference. I'd recommend trying each method and seeing what works for you.

A thread last week went through some of the pros and cons of each.

Jobasha's right; it comes down to personal preference. The first thing you should do is read the relevant chapter of '13 Steps'. This will help you understand the terminology better.

The first type to try, I think, is the classic swami gimmick/nail writer. The reason for this is that they are so very cheap. However, if you like to keep your nails very short (or if you bite them), it might not be worth your time even trying. Richard Osterlind (and many others) favour this sort, but personally I don't get on well with them.

The next type I think you should try is a Boon. If you are willing to wait a while, I recommend ordering a Lincoln's Best Boon from the US. It's so much better than the regular sort (and they were my preferred type anyway). I suggest this next, as it seems to be overall the most popular type, from opinions voiced on forums.

Some people like TT writers (not a huge fan myself, but OK) and there's also the 'band writer' type, which I have not tried, but which I'd guess is quite similar to a Boon in feel.

I know the 'Super Sharpie' has some fans, but from what I have heard, I wouldn't suggest it for an introduction.
