Just thought it might be nice to have a place to put your thoughts on the convention if you went along, post phots etc, and tell us about your highlights.

The highlights for me was - The sessions in the Ruskin, watching and learning some great new magic. And David Williamson and Wayne Dobson in the gala show (hilarious)

Lows - not much sleep.

highs and lows

Postby andrew kingsbury » Feb 22nd, '10, 22:14

Highs - in no particular order (as Dermott would say)

1. The Ruskin.
2. Clive & Danny soaking the stage and the Blackpool Magicians club.
3. Dave Williamson
4. Shoot Owaga's lecture
5. Great dealers Fair.
6. Private workshop with Shoot Owaga
7. Kaplan
8. Henry Evans
9. Ed Ellis
10. Quick Change (the first time you see it)

Lows -

1. Levent - a bit all over the place and didnt know what act he really was.
2. Dave williamson and Wayne Dobson on Sunday Show were billed as an "Act" - but it was just a 30 second stunt - shame.
3. Russ Stevens - was it just me or was he on for 4 3/4 hours?
4. Mick Miller - lost his humour along with his hair. - BRING BACK DEREK SCOTT (sorry for the caps - but its a must)
5. Not being able to book a table in any restaurant in Blackpool!!!
6. Promissing yourself that you will be in bed by 2am - then looking under the sofas of the Ruskin for your shell at 5.30am and wondering who stole the last few hours :?
7. Hangovers and sleep deprivation!

there seems to be a general malaise around it this year, most other times there's loads of reviews and photos up by now...was it all a bit dissapointing this year?

It does seem that way,

I was on a dealers Stand so missed most of the lectures and other bits so I didnt really notice.

I just go for the social, and had a great time meeting new people.

But your right there does seem to be a lack of photos and posts.

Highs

The Ruskin - Dave Williamson, Lee Smith, Mesika,
The best moment for me was watching a french magician called Bebel downstairs in the Ruskin, bringing in a crowd and keeping the same crowd for an hour with some mesmerising card magic!

Best show for me was Quick Change as it was the first time I seen it Live.

Lows

Hangovers, getting up at 5pm on Sunday and missing most of the day
and the convention not lasting an extra day or two. Bring on IBM in my town - Eastbourne - September :o)

I suppose that I'm a week early to ask whose going to Blackpool next year and if anyone knows who will be in the lineup

Doesn't sound as if there was much to miss this year other than the get together in the Ruskin.

Catching up with friends
David Williamson performing Rocky Racoon Live (not to mention his lecture).
Meeting John Bannon
Clive and Danny in the shows

Actually - too many highs.

Lows:

Having a bad cold before I even set off

Losing my voice on the Thursday for the whole weekend (although I appreciate that was many peoples high).

Seeing something for sale that I made up two years ago. I am not sugesting they stole it from me, just that i wish i had done something commercially with it two years ago.

I'm waiting for their "customer services" to get back to me. If I get messed around then I will be more than happy to reveal all.
