Tips: Spray Mount

Postby rcarlsen » Dec 6th, '05, 23:10

Have anyone of you ever heared of, or used, "Spray Mount"? It's probably among others, produced by "3M". This is a one-surface, clear adhesive with long-aging, quick tack, low soak-in, non-staining, and non-wrinkling. It gives you great advantages, and you are just about to forget and leave your sticky tape. This is just awesome. Just bought my first box, and it works. Very nice. Just make sure not to add too much, it has a great sticky characteristic behavour.

I've also used spray mount by 3M but before you dash out and buy it you need to know that there are two kinds!

The one that you are most likely to need is the re-positional spray mount as this allows you, as Rune points out to do lots of stuff with cards and to develop some moves of your own by adding some imagination.

The second type of spray mount is adhesive and once stuck, it's stuck! Make sure that you get the type that you want / need.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Would I be right in saying that this is what I would need if I needed to "boost the tackiness" (for want of a better expression !!) of the gimmicked card, in the "tag" card trick routine ? Or is this something completely different. What I'm after is a kind of semi-permanent glue.

Repositionable SprayMount leaves the paper/card like the adhesive on a Post-It Note - if that helps!

I've been using various SPRAYMOUNTS in my job as a designer for about 15 years.

There are two main types. One which works great for doing 'sticky' card effects, and one which most certainly does NOT!

Type 1: Blue tin
This stuff is VERY sticky, can be messy and dirty

Type 2: Red tin
Repositional, excellent for use in card effects

Advice? get a slick and simple delivery system such as Changin Glue. The one thing I detest about Spraymount is that it is hit-and-miss and quite a messy process—as to deliver an even coat, you need to be about 5 inches away from what you're spraying. The overspray is yuk.

Changin glue, however, comes in pen form, and dries like post it glue. You simply draw onto whatever you want to become sticky, and that's it. Wait a couple of minutes, and presto... clean, economic.

Craft shops ;)

I'm only mentioning it, because once tried, it becomes clear why it's a winner. Plus, it's cheaper than spraymount ;)
