TT

TT,

Ok I was shocked to discover there was no review of the TT and so I thought it about time to do one. This review is aimed at the newer magician as any magician that’s been around a while will most certainly be very familiar with them as it is probably the single the most used prop.

Cost: anything from 50p to around £3.50 for the standard variety. Usually for a brand name you are looking at £2.50 to £3.00.

Effect: to make small objects, silks etc Disappear with just the bare hands.

Ok as a brand new magician I bought my first TT and was very disappointed, it didn’t fit, was the wrong colour and looked rubbish. I bought a bigger one, found it still didn’t fit even after putting it in very hot water and moulding it a bit ( although that helped ) and it looked really obvious. I was told by more experienced people that it could be orange and huge and it would still work, but rather doubted them and shoved it in a drawer.

I’m pretty sure if you’re new to magic and buy a TT you will be disappointed.

Then I made a discovery that changed my whole thinking on TT’s.

I got hold of a video that taught you how to use them. No wonder I hated my TT I had no real idea how it was supposed to be used. Now I’m not sure if the video I had was a particularly brilliant one as it’s the only one I’ve seen but it seemed brilliant to me. I would say this, if you want a TT and have no teacher, then get a teaching video. I can highly recommend Patrick Page’s TTs)

After watching the video, I began to practise and have since had my first successes with disappearing stuff. Today I did 3 tricks on four people, none of which they had seen before. Dynamic coins, a powerful card trick where after a completely free choice of card it is discovered that the spec has chosen the only card with a red back and marked in huge black letters and a disappearing silk trick (tt). I was amazed that they thought the silk trick was the best and even after seeing it around 10 times they had no idea how it was done.

So my advice don’t get a TT until you have bought a video and unless you have had one recommended I’ve go for the one I’ve suggested.

Not only is it a very cheap prop, but it has so many uses and I now understand why it is the most common magicians prop.

Try this out, i usually have a spectator hold out thier shirt, and conceal the TT in it, and butt out a cigarette (has to be almost finished) inside it, put it on, and presto its gone with no hole in the shirt! Then... re-appear it inside thier hand when they are asked to hold it out and open :) Another good one is pouring sugar into it... the TT is a small yet very versatile tool.

I want to buy a TT

Postby Pcwizme » Jan 15th, '04, 11:01

sorry this may sound silly but as ive never owned a TT the main thing i want to know is how much "Stuff" you can fit inside.
the main reason for asking is i have been asked to do a trick for a party and make suger flow out of a £5 note as the perants of the child (not a Gig as such just a friends sons party) saw paul mackenna? do it on a tv show last week and wondered if i could do it for the party.

Also where could i get one of moderate quality? I dont want to spend to much as i am on limited income(student)!

Thanks for the help

emagictricks has a good selection of reasonably priced TT's and also the 101 things to do with book (which I believe will detail the trick you are after).

The book is at.
http://www.emagictricks.co.uk/product_i ... ts_id=3886

The TT's are at
http://www.emagictricks.co.uk/default.php?cPath=7_34

go fo it. you will find it so useful for so many things.

These things are sooooo cheap yet can be so effective. As an alternative to sugar, try salt because sugar tends to get far more sticky when damp and salt, having much smaller grains, seems to flow forever when you pour the stuff out (hold the pouring hand high to give a longer 'fall' of salt). In a decent TT you should get enough loaded to give a very convincing quantity if you control it right. By having and using more than one TT you could do the salt thing then, after something else perhaps, move on to 'sqeezing' water out of a stone or something equally impossible. Just play around with it and you'll soon discover what a great effect it can be - and never leave home without one!

(And if all this doesn't impress your spectators , just tell them that Paul McKenna is a hypnotist so what does he know about magic!)

I tend to agree with you - a TT should be selected by trying it on but the one I bought from emagictricks fits perfectly so no problems!

The illuminating version is called D'Lite and is available in red from emagictricks ( http://www.emagictricks.co.uk/product_i ... &affid=109 ) but they are also made in Yellow and Green and are available from US suppliers at the moment. If you're thinking of buying D'Lites then get 2 as you'll be restricted with only one - it's more of a novelty than a trick but can be great fun. If you use the Search function at the top of the page and enter D'Lite you should find some older threads with lots of info.

Is there a reason that you would like to say smarties?

This went over my head somewhat but I am sure it is a cryptic message of some kind.

Cogito, ergo sum.
Cogito sumere potum alterum.

yes it confused me a little.

I have this picture of Laurence eating smarties and someone removing them from his mouth. Leave him alone I say. If he wants to eat smarties he should be allowed to!

I'd definitely try them on before buying if you have a choice. Also remember it needs to fit when loaded. I know your on a student budget but the £12 or so on a TT video will make a tremendous difference to your being able to use it effectively. The one I suggested above covers using salt and many other tricks and very importantly how to get your TT on and how to dump it afterwards. As well as how to make sure it is not seen during and a load of different ideas to use it for.

Just thought i'd addadd a link of my review of a DVD on TTs to this thread. This is well worth getting as it particularly gives you a good appreciation of the angles you need to consider as well as a good selection of tricks.
