If it's Impromptu material you're after then why not look into Jay Sankey's "Anytime, Anywhere" DVD - It's specifically impromptu magic with borrowed items.

Also, for card tricks not all of them are impromptu but the tricks on Andrew Murray's "Thirteen" have been invaluable for me.

Well mine is coming tomorrow :D Speak to Flash about the haunted key, he really likes it.

'A large Precision Mortice "Key" slowly turns over in your hand or in the hand of a spectator. Totally examinable before and after your performance. No threads, No wires, No magnets and can be performed surrounded. Self contained. Always ready to perform. Perfect for street entertainers'

This is just my opinion but I think if your going to perform in school I think you should stick to cards, money, and everyday objects.....rubber bands, rings, pens and pencils. It's just my opinion. The haunted key or at least the ones i've seen are old keys...like skeleton keys....not used much any more. I would save this for a close-up show or something at your house to show people like 'Look at this I found this in my Grandparent's house'

Whilst i agree with your suggestion to keep objects familiar whilst using them around school I don't see why this justification for the object couldn't be used at school.

You can use ANY item you like to do your magic but you need to justify your reason for having it. If you can do can get away with anything!

If you are interested in the Haunted Key effect then I'd check out this thread.

http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic10200.php

It is suitable to be performed in both contexts, but it is an effect that relies heavilly on your ability to tell a good yarn...
