Pass With Care by Peter Cassford

Postby Dominick » Apr 16th, '06, 21:09

Hey folks.

Couldn't find a review on this. I've been looking at some of the Ninja-1 reviews on other websites and they say you have to go into the video with some prior knowledge to the Pass.

So I was thinking about Pass With Care, which has gotten great reviews on other sites. I just thought I would get feedback by the more trusted magicians on TM!

Can be found here:

Thanks,
Dominick

I think this is a review of the same DVD, despite the different name. Goto http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic2222-0-0-asc-.php

I have this DVD and it certainly sounds the same. IMHO it is a great starting point for learning the classic pass.

That's interesting. I'm sure it's the same thing...But why a different name?

Thanks,

Maybe its just a rerelease and they decided to rename the product. Still a great video though.

I think there's something wrong there. "On the Pass" isn't Peter Cassford's dvd..

On the Pass dvd is a Meir Yedid production with Richard Kaufman explaining some passes and tricks. (I checked the link in alakazam, just search for them, you'll see; they're different.)
Pass with Care from Peter Cassford is another dvd which can be found at his site.

Can't disagree with you there Gamer, the DVD in question is known by myself as "Pass With Care". The only discrepency here is that it was reviewed on this site as "On The Pass" two years ago, see my link above.

Either the reviewer made a mistake in naming the DVD or the DVD itself has been renamed over the subsequent 2 year period. ???

Pass with Care

Postby archimage » Apr 17th, '06, 00:06

I bought the Pass with Care DVD and it was pretty good.

I bought it from the Ellusionist site and the reviews there pretty much match mine.

Cassfords pass is very impressive and I am still no where near able to do the "10-second pass". He allows you to burn his hands as he does the pass requiring a full ten seconds and still I can't see the pass. I can spot some movement beneath the deck but still.

Cassford's presentation is a bit robotic and at first I thought it was going to be very difficult to watch. He held my interest by going over the myths of the pass, showing the pass, doing some tricks for spectators, and some quick variations of the pass.

In terms of the review template, I'd say the difficulty level is 3-4. In that I think it will still take me a long time to execute the pass as he does, and I cannot do the pass completely surrounded, but it got me on a good start.

Overall, the DVD impressed upon me that even though you can control cards using easier moves, the pass is a card magican's staple move and should be in your toolbox.

Blimey, did I do that?? Can't believe it wasn't noticed at the time.
No, the name of the disc hasn't changed. It was just my mistake.

My opinion has changed slightly since then. I've since become more proficient with the pass and I'm familiar with some different handlings of it now and there are some fairly big disadvantages with the kind of pass that Pete Cassford teaches. The handling on this disc teaches the pass beginning in a vertical position (much like Youell's from Hacking the Pass) which has some downsides that the Cassford doesn't really bring up.
Still, it got me started with the pass.

What you call heroism is just an expression of this fact; there is never a scarcity of idiots
