Haunted Key

Postby Delude » Apr 29th, '06, 13:50

Hey, i havn't seen anyone elses vid of a haunted key so i thought i'd post mine. The video itself is quite sure and i am aware that i turned they key way too fast. The video was taken quite quickly yesterday and i'll take time at some point to improve and update the actual video itself.

ive was never sure bout this trick, unless you can show, by puttin your hand on a table or something, that your hand is flat ppl can to easily presume your just tilting your hand slightly or something.

the movie maker old age clip effect isnt much cop, need the same effect but without the skipping frames business which ruins it, but overall, very nice

Too Late :D I'll post the link in a mo. You might have to look carefully cos the damn sun kept coming out then going away, it's quite bright. I didn't add any effects to the video part so it's clearer.

Nice use of media player, I thought for a second I was watching my own website straitjacket video...

As for the effect, its hard to see much due to the old film technique, but in my opinion the key needs to turn slower, this effect for me isn't about the fact that the key turns, its how it turns. If it turns quickly people think you've just tilted your hand, but if you can make the key move ever so slowly people don't know quite what to make of it. Also I'd stop the key just before it reaches the top and then start it again, controlling it slowly all the way to the bottom.

So Flash's tip for the day is slow and stedy wins the race...

Nice patter in the titles as well, when this is vocalised by you to your spectators and then the key turns in your hand you should really creep them out.

edit} having just seen the second video, I'd say the speed is a bit better, but needs more control still on the down.

Flash has the key to the success of this trick

Seriously, just as stated it's the way and the speed at which the key is seen to move. Too fast and it's ruined. It's, as stated important that they kay 'lays' down rather than falls or flops after it's reached the vertical point.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
