HYPER TRANSPO by Sptehane Lemelin

INTRO

A few months back I noticed that Tom Lauten had one of his clearouts and I'd been after another Stolen Deck by Mr Lennart Green that was different to the one that I already owned. Having spotted this on the long list of effects I contained Mr Lauten and ended up, as if by some form of suggestive magic with a lot more than I had intended to purchase. I can't deny that what I bought was great stuff and at a great price, but it hasn't been until around one week ago that I managed to find some time to start opening them up.

After a brief rummage through the jiffy bag, the trick that stood out first was Hyper Transpo. I've always got good reaction when performing transpo effects although what I have performed until now with cards was more of a packet trick style of set up, two or three cards etc. Here was an effect using two decks, one red and one blue.

THE EFFECT

The magician introduces two cased decks - one red and one blue. The spec selects either of them, let's say the blue and that deck is taken out of the case. The deck back is shown so that the spec knows that they are ALL blue and then one by one, the cards are dealt face up into the specs hand until he / she calls STOP. The card that the spec stop son is placed aside, face up while the remainder of the cards are put back into the box.

The red deck is then taken out of its case and again, the backs are shown to be all red. The magician searches through the deck until the duplicate of the free selection is found. The card is removed and slowly turned to show that it is a blue backed card, the only one in the red deck.

Then, the face up card from the blue deck is turned to show that it's a red backed card.

THE COST

Don't know and I've searched a number of the main magic sites without success - sorry

HOW DIFFICULT IS IT?

The mechanics of this trick are very easy indeed, you just need a little practice with the decks and spreading, dribbling the cards. No more than a 1 in terms of difficulty.

The patter is also nice and simple although there is loads of scope for improving this and adding your own take on it.

THE REVIEW

What you get is a trick deck and a small packet of cards that are inserted into the middle of a standard deck that is the opposite colour to the trick deck. The standard deck is not supplied althought Tom did inlclude one. Once put together and practiced, what you have is a minor card miracle that looks far more difficult that it actually is. The method is really clever yet simeple and the decks are shown and do appear to be un-gimmicked.

I've always thought of card transpo effects that use a few cards as more of s street magic genre and as not always being appropraite for table hopping. However, this routine solves this issue and it's vertainly one that I will be using when table hopping.

What this routine allows you to consider is performing two different transpo effects, one after the ohter. Starting off with the deck routine you can answer any 'do that again' requests with something like 'Ultimate' Transpo' where you can use one effect to build to another using single cards.

OVERALL

I have to say that I like this effect very much - thanks Tom!

I give this a score of 8.5 from 10 as it can;t be handled by the specs, but the decks can be shown over and over gain at close quarters by the magician.

This is worth tracking down online and buying.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
