Newbie from The Glasgow Area

Postby lanner » May 6th, '06, 17:35

Hi, I'm an enthusiastic 21 year old female newbie from Glasgow.

I've been interested in magic for a number of years but it's only recently that I've began to seriously consider learning the art.

I'll never be a pro or semi-pro magician, I'm quite happy for it to remain as a hobby and a form of entertainment for myself and hopefully others.

I went to Tam Shepherds today, bought a pack of bikes, linking rings, the pencil slicer and Mark Wilsons Cyclopedia of Magic.

I can tell it's going to take a long long time for me to learn the basic sleights and shuffles but I'm willing to put in the effort.

I also need to work on resisting hitting the next person who repeatedly asks how something is done ;) jk(I think)

There was a course at a college in Glasgow, Intrduction to conjuring and magic, I'm beginning to wish that I'd signed up for it.

Howdy :D Welcome to TM

Basic sleights will not take as long as you think to learn, you just gotta put time and effort into practising. :D

Hi lanner,

Welcome to TM, it is nice to see a female on the royal road to magic fame, and as you are a female it will be to your benifit performing to others, as not many of you exist!....

Good luck in your quest to learn this difficult art.

Regards

Leighton

P.S. I love a Scotish acsent on a woman too! but I won't make a big deal out of it.

Hi Lanner,
Great to see another young lady taking an interest in the magic arts.
If people ask you how it's done a good reply is: "Can you keep a secret?"
If the answer is "Yes" you say "So can I!" and smile. If the answer is "No" then you say "Sorry, you don't qualify"

That's exactly where I started in Magic, 10 years and two days ago!!!
The course doesn't always run because there isn't always the necessary take up.
But apply again in September and hopefully it will run.
And tell Stuart I was asking for him.

Really hot actually... :D

[edit] Welcome to TM! [/edit]

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Ty for the welcome everyone.

I unfortunately don't have a Glaswegian accent, we moved to a town about 10 miles north of Glasgow when I was 10.

I have a definite twang to my voice because of the move, though I've had people think I come from Edinburgh or Fife, anywhere but Glasgow really

Saxmad, I think I will sign up for that course when it runs again, I'm currently learning German at the same college and wishing that I'd went for the magic course when I signed up for German 1.

I was looking at pics of my 9th birthday party the other day, the most memorable and probably favourite of all my birthdays so far as my mother hired a magician for my party.

The pics show all 20 or so of the children laughing so hard and quite obviously having a great time.

It shows what a great impact a magician can have on children , how much joy they can bring, my classmates who were at the party are now 21 year olds like me, but even now they still remember that magician.

PS Wizard Renlim, thats a great reply I think I'll use that :)
