Hello Everyone

Postby Enigma516 » May 10th, '06, 02:54

Hello to all :D.

Just wanted to say that I found this site looking for something else and I would say that it was the best mistake of my life. I've been into magic for about 11yrs now and can say that out of all the hobbies I've picked up in my 35yrs, this has to be the best.

I mostly do slight of hand and and coins and some escapes. Very little card manipulations (I have never been able to complete a card production, (even with all the Jeff McBride DVD's) I have a few stage magic items but not much. I prefer the closeup approach and getting people involved. That's how I was introduced to magic.

I look forward to talking with you all, learning more. After all, you can never know enough.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Welcome enigma516.
You come from a great part of the world. Do you go to the magic shop in old town or get most of your supplies from the net?

I don't deal with the store in Old Town. I worked for them years ago and they have nothing to offer me. I normally order through the net so I can get fresh items and illusions.

Old Town is good, if you're looking to start learning. Once you get into slight of hand and bigger illusion you need to order through the web.

So if you've worked in the Old Town Store, and this is a hobby what do you do for a day job? Where do you perform mostly. I assume there must be plenty of opportunities in your part of the world.

I work for Verizon Wireless. Believe it or not, I never got into magic to make money. I started so that I can entertain people. I was always amazed by watching a magician perform since I was a litttle kid, and remember the expressions on my face after the final effect.

I have a big family with lots of nieces and nephews as well as 4 of my own. So it keeps them from breaking my things when they come over.

You are right on one thing, there are plenty of opportunities in these neck of the woods. Every now and then I'll have someone ask me to go to a party they're throwing or if I can make it to a seminar or something like that. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. I picked this up basically for my own satisfaction of being able to say "I actually perfomed magic" when I'm old and gray.

My 15yr old daughter on the other hand makes a killing at her friends birthday parties. She's the 1st one to say "I'll do magic at your party if your parents want" then she always throws in "for a small price". You gotta love her.

My goal is to have my kids learn what I know and leave it up to them as to what they want to do with that knowledge.

Magic is a wonderful thing. I don't know what I would have done without it.
