Well, of course I am new here, which is why this is my first post.
I am not a "performing" magician, I don't do gigs, I am a bit of a hobbyist I guess, I like doing tricks for kids and drunk people (they don't catch on as well and it really strokes your ego)

I like close up magic, and hate gimmicks.
I love impromptu magic, HATE carrying around a "special" coin, cloth, paper. Watch me BITE this COIN in HALF.... no, not your coin, let me find mine, here it is. ok, YUM. No thanks

Sleights are my favorites. I like mentalism as well.
I am looking for a few tricks that will make a big bang with non drinkers, any good suggestions?

Thinking of the coin in can, obviously it is well liked, great feedback on in.
Any others? Hopefully ones that can be instantly purchased online.

I live in the USA.

Hi and welcome to TM

Gimmicks are fun!
I don't have a bitten in half coin but I'd like to get one... the best bit is that with a bit of a switch, even something gimmicked liked coin bite can be impromptu :D

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Maybe it's the fact that I can be lazy. I'm a smoker and my pack of cigs and my keys is mostly all I carry.
Actually, most of my tricks involve cigarettes...... or fire.... If I ever quit smoking I am really screwed.

My favorite street trick actually involves the spec setting it up by asking for a cigarette, it's amazingly simple. But you have to have someone who isn't embaresed(sp) by throwing an imaginary cigarette.

Anyhoo, thanks for the welcome, I've seen a bunch of your posts here. You seem to be very informative, I look forward to discussing tips on tricks in the future.

OK, Here's my problem....

I want to get Mindbender, I want AXIS, but I also like Stigmata...

On some other sections of the boards I have seen posts as to Stigmata being not really worth the $30 price...

Anyone have any experience with this one? How absolutely easy is it to flub?

I guess with my style of magic, I want to walk up to someone, hit them hard and walk away while their jaw is still on their shoelaces.

Any suggestions?

Hi Slinkey and welcome.

I like doing tricks for kids and drunk people
round this way that's the same thing

If you're not performing then you won't get the ost out of Mindbender and you need to be aware, as recommended in the DVD that this effect is best performed as a closer with another card trick and NOT as a stand-alone trick.

Hope that this helps to make your mind up. Anyway, welcome again.

I actually think that I have "Hit Man" down solid after about 3 straight hours of practice. Not exaclty the kind of trick you can just walk by and go *poof* and walk away.
But it is a solid trick to add to my collection.

I have been looking for a trick online that I actually perform, but I can't find it. anyone know of a trick where you hold a cigarette in your hand, and toss it to an unsuspecting "mark" and it vanishes as it leaves your hand?

Hi Slinkey1981,
I should imagine that what you are doing is a veriation of a basic sleight and so probably wouldn't find it on the web as such. Have you got the encyclopedia of cigarette magic. You could also just have a cigarette vanisher which is a marketed item for a couple of dollars I would think

Hmm, The Encyclopedia of Cigarette Magic... I must google this.
Thanks WIZ

I don't like props, gaffs, gimmicked decks and the such. It's all in the speed and the angle for me.

I do understand that cupping or palming and item that say, bends a penny, does take skill and practice, but I don't know.. it seems to easy for me.

Anyone else ever notice that the more difficult and extrememly complicated that an effect is, it's usually the really simple ones that get the best reaction?
