DIVINING A THOUGHT

Postby DANAZZ » May 18th, '06, 15:43

Good day to you all,

This is my first visit to the forums and just wanted some expert advice.

What in your opinion is the best way to divine a thought from a person? Regardless of which method used, e.g spectator writes it down first etc...

I dont want the actual method but would just like the name of the effect/creator.

Many thanks, Dan.

Hello and welcome. This is a really tricky question to answer. Do you want simple inexpensive effects or the more expensive effects. There are good books such as "13 steps to mentalism", also many DVDs. You may want to try a book test. A good easy and cheap one is "A word in a Million by N.Einhorn.

The best way may be to start with a book as you get a good grounding of several different principles. I have Derren Brown's book "Pure effect" that is really good and has some thought stuff in it. If you can be more exact in what you want i am sure we can help more.

..there's a very powerful method in a book called Deadly Mentalism By Ben Rayot, but its up to you to decide if it suits your performance style and so on...

i love it, nothing needed, nothing written down, just you and the other person talking...

Thanks for the prompt responses guys, it gives me a good idea as to where to start looking. Just the excuse i needed to get pure effect. I've actually got deadly mentalism in my attic somewhere but it wasnt for me at the time i bought it, I'll have to dig it out and take another look, thanks a lot for the reminder! I just need something quick and simple with as little gimmicks/set up as possible.
Thnaks again, Dan.

Buy Pure Effect by all means, its an excellent book. However... it deals very little with direct mindreading. It is very much focussed on card magic. Don't buy it if you are expecting to read minds! I would recommend Corinda's 13 Steps to Mentalism, there is a lot of information in there on all the various methods, swami, billets etc.

Hope that helps!
