I just picked up a set of the silver nesting thimbles yesterday, as I've decided the sewing thimble I've been using isn't really visible enough. They seem to be sized excellently for classic, thumb and finger palming, but backpalming is a different matter.
I have pretty large hands, but the width of the base of the thimbles mean that I can't backpalm them effectively, as the silver rim shows around my finger - it's just too big to go behind one finger, and far too narrow to go behind two. I have managed to backpalm them "backwards" (ie. with the narrower end nearest my hand, but this is a much more difficult position to get them in and out of, and feels insecure, so I'm not yet sure if it's worth the effort.
It looks like they're not designed to be backpalmed, but I'm wondering if a lick of flesh coloured paint on the underside might make the rim less visible. Before I ruin a set of new thimbles, has anyone tried this? I suspect the rim will probably still be too visible for closeup stuff...
