Absolutely UMPHatic!!!

Postby magic_evmeister » May 22nd, '06, 18:40

This is something I learnt today from a DVD called "Secret Sessions". This DVD has 30 of the worlds finest magicians all performing and explaining a trick of theirs. Guy Hollingworth did a trick called UMPH!!! which I've modified slightly to the video shown here. It didn't really deserve a new name based on the change I've made but, hey, who cares?

My pass was awful, I know. But does anyone have any other comments on this routine?

My comments are twofold.

Number 1: Can we get a resounding "What the ... hell?"

Number 2: I like it. A lot :D It is now my moral and legal obligation to learn this trick...

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Eckozero: What the ...Hell!
Your pass was really good evmeister, we are not looking for perfection you know ;)! I didn't notice anything at the first view...
I always enjoy a great Triumph-like trick, and this one has some of the most convincing moves, I will look for it ;)

I do believe swearing is frowned upon on TM :D
Baffled me a few times I can tell you.
I see bits happening after my 4th or 5th viewing, but still got no idea really :(

Wow, nice job!

If you can do the sleights in this then you might want to have a look at Emerge Triumphant (only on Penguin unfortunately *sigh*) by Oz Pearlman - it's a triumphey effect like this but with a kicker where the cards are in NEW DECK ORDER after the shuffles and cuts. Have a look at the demo :):

By the way, the pass was definitely not awful! Sure, I saw it on the video, but that's because I was looking for it. If you're just chatting to someone, do you think they'll notice it? That's what counts :P.

Isn't it easier to write directed, produced, bla bla by David "TheEvmeister" Evans together? :)

I like the trick very much. Great effect and a really nice performance. As katrielalex said you can check the emerge triumphant by Oz Pearlman. It's similar to this trick but has an even better finish with the new deck order.

keep up with the good work.

Good pass indeed. I'm still awfully slow with my pass. LOL

Anyways, after watching a second time, I think I might have it figured out after remembering some of the old sleights that I used to use.

Gotta try it now. :P
