Pro PK Kit (Repeat)

Postby jbasl » May 26th, '06, 21:08

I know the pro PK kit (m5) has been reviewed before but I don't know that its been reviewed by someone totally new to this type of magic and I actually want to take a crack at a review...so here it is:

The Effect

A variety of effects are possible with the kit including visible vanishes. The kit is designed for mentalism tricks such as stopping a watch, moving an item around without touching it, etc.

Cost

70-80 dollars (US). I got mine at Penguin for about 72 dollars.

Difficulty

The reviews I've seen rate this a 1 or a 2, but I'm going to have to say that it depends on what you want to do. The simplest tricks are at the 1 range, whereas you can design tricks that incorporate much more difficult practices.

(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Review

I got the kit today and have played with it for maybe an hour. It came with a match, brass rings, a shell, and some shim materials. The gimmick is pretty strong and some effects are very easy to make look good while others take some practice to make them look convincing. Within 20 minutes I was able to change a penny to a dime in a way that astonished my roomate.

I find it hard to get comfortable mounting the gimmick and am torn about where to mount it to maximize the number of tricks I can squeeze out of the kit in a single performance.

The booklet that comes with the kit is very good and has plenty of ideas on how to use the gimmick in interesting ways.

I wish it had come with a bit more shimming material and tips on how to best use the gimmick to make it look convincing. I'm sure that with practice this won't be a problem.

Overall

8/10
