Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2006

Postby pdjamez » Jun 9th, '06, 01:12

I've put a list of magic shows that are appearing at the fringe this year on my blog: Fringe Magic Shows 2006. Alternatively you can go to the Edinburgh Fringe Website directly. I've still to track down the naked interpretive dance troupe. :D

Is anyone else planning to go this year, despite lack of post-modern dance?

I am of course assuming that Ian Kendall is going. :)

Magic@Cafe Royal is back for its umpteenth year (and my fifteenth, I think).

There's three of us this time round, each doing a week. Kicking off is Scott Sullivan from Kentucky, who has worked with Lance Burton amongst others. Week two is my slot, with a bunch of new routines, and week three is FISM winner Paul Nardini.

Should be a good laugh. Except for week two, natch.

Take care, Ian

Jerry Sadowitz (we are not worthy) is also appearing again if i remember correctly

Jerry's only doing his Stand Up Comedy show, which is why I didn't list it.

Oh, and he also doesn't let known magicians into his shows, either.

I caught Kevin McMahon on Sunday night, and I have to say that I really enjoyed myself.
Kevin presented 3 characters- a 'street' type (ned, chav, whatever your regional preference is), a childrens entertainer (complete with hilarious bunny sidekick), and a crazy scientist. To me this meant that the show stayed fresh throughout, and it also meant that the tricks were put in context, giving a flow to the proceedings rather than just a collection of tricks.
Without giving too much away, he did some of the stuff he did on 'Faking It' along with a whole lot of other effects ranging from amusing to pretty damn cool.
Kevin's persona(s) is (are?) such that the show had a very friendly comfortable feel, and he is a very funny man. Even when one effect didn't quite work out (which I'm sure happens even to the best of us), he managed to turn it round in a really cool way.
In short, a great blend of comedy and magic. If you're in the area it's well worth checking out.
