Hi Guys

Long time no speak!!

Just thought id let you know that recently I applied to join a TV and modelling agency. Well a letter arrived in the post yesterday saying that they like my appearance and my clothing style, and they are willing to offer me a full contract!!

I will be going down to Warrington at some point to get my portfolio made for my agency and after that, hopefully the work will be rolling in!

Im hoping this is what will get my foot into the door for ding TV magic, so fingers crossed

All the best

Mark

Mark - well done and all that, but PLEASE be real careful - don't pay any money to this agency before you get any work. They could very easily be conmen.

Been there done that.

Zack,

Ive had a look through the stuff sent. I dont have to pay to be in the agency, but I have to pay £25 for the portfolio, which i believe i get a copy of, so even if it does turn out to be a dud (i dont think it will though due to previous clients list etc etc) then at least ive got a portfolio out of it.

The website is www.eka-agency.co.uk if anyone knows of them?

Hi Mark - nice to hear from you and good luck.

I had a very negative experience about 3 years ago with an agency that looks remarkably similar. I paid £155 for a portfolio for my daughter with lots of promises. Their client list was very very similar yet they worked for none of them. Having worked at the BBC myself for a short time, I know that a great deal of TV production companies will not give you any chance of a part unless you are a member of Equity yet this isn't mentionned.

I can't recommend highly enough that you check the company out beforehand and I do hope that they are all above board.

Check out this link http://www.bbc.co.uk/insideout/south/series3/models_agency_scams.shtml

This was the agency that we used and all they did was introduce us to another agency, owned by the same people at the same address and they also wanted £100 at which poihnt we cut our losses.

There is a trade association mentionned at the end of the article where you can check out this agency beforehand.

Generally speaking, there were 17 year old girls there who you just had to look at to realise that they would never be a model yet they were being told that all was well and they could secure them some work - for the £150 of course. On reflection it was terrible what they were doing and they KNEW it, which is what made it worse.

Sounds very similar to my experience - mine was £136 and it was when I was 19. They told me I'd be an excellent model for FCUK - I now know they use cold reading techniques, a sprinkling of lies and professional-looking photographic equipment.

I'm so, so shallow...

Why do have to pay for the portfolio, this is strange as they would take any costs out of bookings you get. Not make you pay at once. Have you checked them with http://www.agents-uk.com/index.html

Mark, something about this does not seem right, i am sure i have heard of them before. Please be careful my friend

Guys,

Thank you for your concern, soemone from the magicbunny forum has done a check on my behalf through Equity and they have come up as a reputatble company, so as much as im going to be careful, im going to have a chat with the company and then decide if im going to put my name down.

Ill let you know how it goes guys.

Mark
