I was performing the other day and was doing an effect where I "miss" the card then change it into their card ie "nothing is better than when the magicians apparently fail then magically succeed"

I only got a NICE spectator!

"...Snap my my fingers and ... the three of spades... your card?"
"er.. yes.. amazing, well done"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes! how did you do that?"

I recovered and turned it into a trick sort of making it up as go along which has now become a trick I do BUT next time you get heckled just be glad about - I can't wait!

So the card that was definitely not their card (and was the one that would change into it) was admitted to be the chosen card (when it clearly wasn't) ?
If so, it happened to me twice just three days ago. I was befuddled and I had him show the card to really everyone else. It didn't happen again.
