Apollo 11, where are you?

Postby Tomo » Jul 14th, '06, 18:19

The usual video pictures of the first moon landing in 1969 are low definition repros from the original SSTV tapes. In all there are 700 fascinating reels of this stuff - or rather, there were. Slashdot is reporting that 698 of them have gone missing over the years from the US National Archive. The quality of the originals is suposed to be incredible, showing the full glory of the first human being to stand on another world.

They were the only copies and the only place with the ability to read them closes in October. :(

Of course you may well know that there is a massive conspiracy theory about the first moon landing as many scientists and people don't believe that it actually happened. It's been the subject of countless documentry's and newpaper / magazine articles.

The film Capricorn One is apparently based on this theory too and some think that it was all staged in a hanger in Area 51 in Navada.

Technology has apparently been able to show various faults in the photo's etc.

There have also been films about travel into space that have been based on real events as well, such as Apollo 13.

There is also the fact that if nobody landed on the moon it could be equally plausible that nobody has ever travelled into space for the same reasons. I just cant seem to make the conspiracy work really in my mind, just doesnt quite fit properly.

Of course Apollo 13 was much later on and there's little doubt that space travel DID happen but it's a matter of when?

The info available appears pretty convincing in many respects and there's too many sites dedicated to this theory to list them all. Just do a search on conspiracy theories to see.

Whether it's a hoax or not, I'm still open minded on this one. Then of course it's a matter of whether you believe that Hitler didn't commit suicide or whether Diana's crash was an assasination.

Take your pick

I find it quit funny that if man did land on the moon in 1969, how come no one has been there since!

I meen, come on, with todays technology we should be able to go there tomorrow or at least soon and with better video footage!

I made my wife dissapear just by arguing with her!!!

They have... I think. It's just once its been done once, it's not so new so the press coverage is a lot less.

Moon landing history can be found at Lunar Timeline. But they're just a bunch of lying scientists aren't they...

As we head into a hoax discussion, please checkout Apollo Moon Photos and Moonhoax; before the usual garbage science that the hoax theory depends upon is pulled out and given a good airing.

This site explains the most interesting conspiracy theory very well. We know for a fact that the footage is authentic. Take a look and you might recognise it

On the moon landings only, I'm not convinced and that's true.
