www.alakazam.co.uk will be able to help you there. They have an American section now too I believe so even if you're in the US there shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise it should be on Amazon.

Seems they only appear to have the DVDs.

Anyway, I've been doing a little research and it seems the hardcover edition was printed before the paperback edition, so how could the prior version possibly be expanded? Did I read wrong or what's the deal?

Dunno. The extra bit is about coin boxes I think, not really of interest to me personally. Don't worry anyway, any version will serve you fine.

i have the encyclopedia of card tricks ny jean hugard which is great i also recomend royal road. i think gimmick decks have their place in magic but i feel that if u have to take out a different deck everytime u want to perform a different trick it means the magic loses a lot i would stick to a normal deck the stuff u can do with a little bit of skill can be so much more effective than with a gimmick

Alot of the moves used with the ghost gaff deck are color changes. A good dvd just on color changes is Jay Noblezada Color changes. Learn the moves first with a regular deck then use the gaff deck if you wish. Also on his dvd he teaches a couple methods in using a DL.

I would say (in order/my opinion):

 Royal Road to Card Magic - for definate
 Phantoms at the Card Table (for historical reasons and sleights at the back), then onto
:!: Expert at the Card Table (to then appreciate it even more so than straight away)
 Expert Card Technique - Close up table magic
:?: Card Manipulations series 1-5 as a general selection/collection

basically, 80-100 dollars for you equals a lifetimes worth of effects and sleights - gagging for you to come up with your own storylines and uses...far better than 3 or 4 "from the box" effects...

dvds are useful tools, i found The Pass by Andy Wakeman very useful as i struggled with it for a little while and it was something i found easier after a visual demo...

but overall my advice would be to stick with the books, even if you don't get it after a month or two; sometimes after a revisit things make more sense...and this is all regardless of any experience you may have, start afresh i say...

EDIT: my 666 post - lovely....
