msn and over-friendly males

Postby Taiven_Grant » Jul 20th, '06, 14:39

I'm not really expecting much empathy in this post, I know most of the members here are male, but I felt compelled to say something :(

For about the billionth time since I've been using the internet, someone new added me to MSN and on finding out I was female proceeded to talk to me in an inappropriate way.

I guess I was naive to think I might escape this at TM and to place my address in my profile for adding. I've removed it now. It's a shame, but such is the nature of the internet I guess :?

Two things to mention here...

You DO have the choice as to whether or not you accept the person's request to be added to your list...

...and...

...believe me, as a MALE, I get equally inappropriate comments from various idiots who seem to do that sort of thing for fun.

All in all, if you vet your incoming requests to be added to the list, and just delete/block people on first offense, you'll find MSN is a great channel for chat and meeting new people with like-minded discussions.

Just filter out the plonkers, and take no notice.

I cant believe that you get this from people on tm, it is totally inapropate, good to see you havnt lost faith, dont let the minority spoil it for you!!!

Matbe report it to mods on who is acctually doing it.

Also a good point from seige, as i love to chat to people from here on msn most of the day, (hope my boss dosnt read this) its a great way to swap ideas and stories

Yuck! Some people think they're free to behave in any way they choose in cyberspace. The thing is, they're not. Block and report them! Get them banned!

Taiven,

I'm sorry that some members of this forum can't control their hormones and their mouths, hopefully they'll clean their act up. I have noticed that the influx of female members that happened recently has started to diminish, with these members hardly posting (having introduced themselves). I wonder if they have experienced similar behaviour...

I must admit I don't understand this MSN malarky, but I really wish that people would start to understand that manners are important even electronic ones...

You're right Seige and I have blocked them. I guess I just wanted to complain a bit

I already decided to do nothing except block them, since it happened on MSN not TM.

You're right also Flash, the internet does seem to give some people the idea that they can leave their manners behind when they get in front of a keyboard. Ah well!

...er... yeah.... sorry about that Taiven!
   (this is actually a joke)

that does seem strange though, you'd think you'd be safe on a magicians forum, doesn't really fit the magician stereotype, but i guess you never can tell.
get your fella onto them, he already scares the hell out of me!

Yes this is definatly a discusting way to behave, it is somthing I realy can't stand and feel very strongly against!

Something like this happened to my wife last year and very nearly split the family up, it was not via internet but via text, but needless to say in an electronic world these people see the computer screen and mobile phones as a very BIG mask to hide behind, it gives them a sence of power they would never be able to recieve in the real world!

Oh yes, you still have Yahoo Instant Mesenger available on your profile posts, does this work like MSN Messenger?

I am one of the brigade that stands for "Name and Shame"

I am getting angre just typing this

I made my wife dissapear just by arguing with her!!!

Me too! I'm currently writing a piece for a magazine about how to trace spammers, but this has given me an idea for a piece about how, even though people think they can get away with acting like, well, you-know-whats online, they can be traced and prosecuted if necessary.

I have gotten myself in real trouble over MSN before believing the person I was talking to was 18 and female and they were actually over 40 and male. I am now VERY selective about who gets my MSN address. I always put on forums PM me for it and then have to think hard before I give it out.

IT WASNT ME!!! I'm only 34!!

although in all seriousness if Tavien wants to send the sleazers names to the mods we can have a quiet chat with them?

Mog, It was no one from this site and was when I was 17 but it is an experience I really do not want to relive.
Advise to all - NEVER meet anyone off the internet without serious thought. You may regret it and it may be a danger to your life.
